I love my M4

Scanning has been the biggest impediment to me doing a lot of film shooting. Unfortunately, the digital age put a huge set of brakes on the development of advanced film scanners for the normal guy.

I finally started shooting film again because I found a lab that develops and scans my 35mm negatives to DNG format (important if you want to be able to interpret/work with colors in color negative film) that I can process in Adobe camera raw similarly to what I do with my digital M Type 262. I've no desire to start stocking and getting my hands in chemicals again, even just for B&W film development so I accumulated 4-6 rolls and then send  them off and have the scans back within a week or two, making notes to myself about how/what I shot so I can commit the detail to the files later.

I'll probably be running 6-10 rolls per month going forward between my M6 and M4 bodies.

My beloved M4 (MDa).

It turns out that a few of the last M4's made in 1975 were actually built on MDa bodies.

Have the data strip insert,

The production of this variation is less than 200 cameras!

Regards.

my trusty user m4.
I think this is my smoothest least demanding Leica body. Pure joy.

Hi all,

I just ordered an M4-P. I assume it's sacrilege around here, though I've ordered a case that should at least hide the big ugly dot. Is there a separate purgatory for this camera or can I play here, if I'm well-behaved?

A thread for M4-P lovers exists

I sold my M4 in 2014 and haven't used film since then. Tried a few digital cameras, had an M9 for a while that I really liked, but digital just doesn't do it for me. So I recently decided to get back into film, put up a wtb ad and believe it or not, actually managed to buy back the same M4! I've had it for a couple of weeks now and totally love it! Right now I'm using a Color Skopar 35/2.5 most of the time, but some day I'll get a Summilux 35 pre-asph again.

Pontus,

I suggest that you have the M4 strap lugs replaced as soon as possible.

The left one, as I see here is turning = message for old M4 user as me that it will fall soon.

Here, almost new lugs (old used replaced while it was CLAed as it was necessary to be stripped down, so not cheap in labor hours if only for lugs)

My M4 is back from the doctor :p yay just in time for Spring
It's also my first time using Leica's meter, and I love it (it makes changing the shutter speed so much easier). I prefer having an external meter to an internal one, since with an external one I get to choose when I want to use it (mostly only in tricky light situations or indoors), rather than seeing arrows and lights in the viewfinder even when I don't need them.

Lovely camera. I also recently put that meter on my M4-P and I, too, greatly enjoy the brilliant mechanical solution of it. Though, I have to admit, I may still prefer Sunny 16 to any meter.

Thank you! I'm with you, I mostly use sunny 16, but if I'm shooting positive film or if the light is changing too much I rely on the meter :) I used to have the Voigtlander one but never enjoyed it, the experience with the Leica MR is much better.

Yes, one strap lug is a bit loose. Right now I’m using it without a strap, I plan to get the lugs replaced with steel ones later on.
