It finished at 1550 GBP. If it's legit then someone has a bargain. On the other hand if it's not...

Not me either. I'm in the market but when something is too good to be true then ...

Hi there,

Well, i own an ebay auction for an m9 :

Leica M9 - eBay (item 190408616826 end time Jun-30-10 03:38:20 PDT)

payed a week ago, as the seller's instrcutions - via Bank Transfer (after making some questions to the seller, everything has supossed to be in the box and not registered yet), and the seller said it would shipp it... last monday he said that (copy paste) "It has not arrived @ my bank Yet. Once it does i will let you know

and ship the product. Thanks"... but after that, silence...i gave him my adrress to ship the item, but, nothing till now.

I already contacted ebay, opened a case...till now ...nothing  Ebay says i have Buyer insurace, but...it's a lot of money and i am really worried !

Be careful and suspicious if you find this kind of Sale :(

Anyone had some similar experience ?

Hmmm, he was 'selling for a friend' as well. That introduces all sorts of other complications, like friend doesn't like the price he got, friend gone on holiday, friend changed mind etc. Its worth avoiding on that alone, but otherwise at least ask if the seller is in possession of the item and if the seller will be posting it. ALL the alarm bells ring on this sale, but I hope I'm wrong. Still, a quick search reveals only two 'Mr A A Crosby' in Wigan, so it would be fairly easy to find out where your money is.

Bank transfer - ouch:(. On e-bay only use that for reputable shops and buyers you know well. If the camera does indeed not turn up - and imo that is a 50-50 chance, you will have to go through the police.

Well...i talked to an ebay agent, and they said that he has 7 day to answer...and that i am "covered" and since i "checked out" via ebay , they accepted a Case jn the resolution center and that i shouldn't worry too much about getting money back ...I am not in the UK so i opted for a "Mail Delivery"

Hope eBay fixes this, in case it really is a Scam

I know i should have be more careful...but since it mentioned it had "eBay Buyer Protection"

250swb : How did you came up with that information ?

jaapv : Trough the police...hum..hope i don't need to get that far....i don't suposse that my bank can help in this kind of issues

They lloked into it and here are some answers from the ebay agent - Conversation with the ebay Agent :

"If your seller does not respond to the case you can have the case closed and you will get your money back."

"You need not worry about the cost of your item as you are covered by our buyer protection program."

"As long as our system allowed you to file the case you are protected by our Buyer Protection Program."

Assuming his name is a Mr A A Crosby from his Ebay identity 'mraacrosby', I just put the name and location into the 192.com search engine. You have to pay a small fee to the site for the addresses to show up. So if you sent the money to a bank in or near Wigan, and to a Mr Crosby, it all starts to cross reference.

Not me either. I'm in the market but when something is too good to be true then ...

I sold my mint condition M8.2 on ebay. It had less than 3000 shutter actuations on it. It had just had a service, sensor clean and rangefinder adjustment in June 2010. It sold for £2100!! There are genuine bargains to be had.

Try not to worry too much just yet. The vast majority of sales on ebay are fine. I've seen similar high end items with similarly poor, brief descriptions go through with no problems.

My M8.2 sale was fine but I've been trying to contact the buyer to ensure he's happy with his purchase but haven't heard from him for 5 days!!. I guess he hasn't come round from fainting at what a bargain he got, or maybe he's died laughing.

I'm sure all will be fine. Relax.

Thanks...it's just that he asnwered to me once after the sale (3 days after) but till now nothing again ... i payed (made the bank transfer, it takes a couple of days) on the 1st of July, he just said on the 3rd of July

"It has not arrived @ my bank Yet. Once it does i will let you know

and ship the product. Thanks"

I confirmed that the payment was sucessfuly done.

I don't use eBAY that much,so i am not familiar in this kind of problems, but never had a problem before... the other major buys i made (in terms of money...i already brough smaller and cheaper stuff ) were a Lens and a Flash to my Nikon SLR, that went OK

Under no circumstances should people start posting personal deatails of any third parties. How would you like it if details of your Bank were posted in the Internet for anyone to see?

Thanks.

Can eBay return funds that were paid between banks? I thought they could only reserve Paypal funds while they investigated and then forward them to whoever wins. I've heard too many horror stories of people losing money on bank transfers.

From what i understood , if thre's any "trouble" they will need some sort of receipt or proof of the bank transfer made.

The refunds are made via paypal, however....with some exceptions if the buyer doesn't have PAypal

The pages of the Ebay Insurance are confusing :(

I'm fairly sure Ebay buyer protection only applies if the buyer used Paypal (see here). I hope the seller comes through with the M9 because I fear jppimenta will not get any help from eBay. In that event, all is not lost - there is the option of contacting police, using small claims court, etc. - but this will not be easy to pursue from overseas.

Indeed, if ebay were to refund every lost bank transfer payment it would be heaven for the rip off merchants! jppimenta should request the sellers contact details - unless you already have them, ebay will have a name, address and phone number on record, of course they might be fake but its worth trying to get them and calling the seller directly.

If you find the number is a dud then you know immediately you are dealing with a scammer.

There are some positive signs, that the seller was seeking personal collection, has some feedback and over a period of months.

Good luck!

Not really, you don't have really have to Pay via Paypal, to get Buyer Protection :

eBay Buyer Protection

"Conditions under which a case can be filed under the eBay Buyer Protection Policy ..." and so on...

It's pretty confusing, but apparently since they accepted a Case , it means that i am Insured and it's OK how i payed (if not , from what i understood when i Chatted with a n ebay agent, they wouldn' have opened it) ... but i'll believe when everything is solved :o

You used one of the following methods listed below:

PayPal

ProPay

Moneybookers

Paymate

Credit card or debit card processed through the seller's Internet merchant account

Bill Me Later

eBay Buyer Protection is not available if you have paid using payment methods not specified in this policy.

Above is from the link you posted - I really would get on the case and not wait for e bay, they will just have sent an e mail to the seller.

Curious that if you check his ebay listing there is now another M9 up for sale. Same pix and wording as yours was. Looks like a relisting.

Seems some more direct contact is in order.
