jaapv Posted May 11, 2010 Share #1 Posted May 11, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Leica books seem to attract all those that were responsible for the bank crisis. First Gunther Osterloh's books hit the 5000$ mark at Amazon, now Erwin Puts' Lens Compendium seems to be driven upwards...I have both, even signed by the respective authors. I guess I'll wait a couple of years and trade them for a yacht in St.Tropez.
Advertisement Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 Hi jaapv, Take a look here Ridiculous pricing. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
luigi bertolotti Posted May 11, 2010 Share #2 Posted May 11, 2010 SIGNED BY THE AUTHORS !!! I hope you have a good fire insurance (about thieves... hope your dogs are well trained... )
stunsworth Posted May 11, 2010 Share #3 Posted May 11, 2010 Jaap, the people selling Erwin's book are private sellers hoping that someone is stupid enough to pay the price being asked. An individual seller can ask for any price they wish - that doesn't mean that anyone will buy <grin>.
andybarton Posted May 11, 2010 Share #4 Posted May 11, 2010 I have the Osterloh book - the M7 one that seems to attract daft money. It's not signed, but it is very tempting to sell it, I have to say.
Xmas Posted May 11, 2010 Share #5 Posted May 11, 2010 Alas Erwins writings are like a good stand up comics best jokes to me, you don't see the punch line until it is to late. Collectors - bad Mug punters - good paraphrasing Animal Farm... Noel

Yes, Luigi. I even have a biting Parrot

UliWer Posted May 11, 2010 Share #8 Posted May 11, 2010 If you look here, you'll find differing prices for the original German and the Engish versions - though you find them moderately priced in English as well: http://www.zvab.com/displaySearchResults.do?listId=2&startRecord=1 So this is not yet a sufficient reason to spend the money on a course in German. bill Posted May 11, 2010 Share #9 Posted May 11, 2010 Back in the early '90s a publisher produced large, high quality hardback editions of the Dan Dare strips from The Eagle. Each cost about £18-£20. There were a dozen in all, chronicling all his adventures. They came out over a 2-3 year period, one or two at a time. I accumulated the set and they sat on a shelf until a couple of years ago when I disposed of them via eBay. Sold individually, they brought in a total of just under £1000. It's not just Leica... stunsworth Posted May 11, 2010 Share #11 Posted May 11, 2010 Wilfredo, I know I'm stating the obvious, but just because someone offers something for sale at a silly price, that doesn't mean that there's a fool prepared to pay it.
sdai Posted May 11, 2010 Share #12 Posted May 11, 2010 How can you prove the signatures are authentic, Jaap? do you have any witness? If I wanna bid on your books, I would ask for a notary certificate first.

holmes Posted May 11, 2010 Share #17 Posted May 11, 2010 Forgive an old cowboy and rancher plus a few other things. What book and author are you all talking about. From the little I can gather it is a book by Gunter Osterloh, title is Leica M, Advanced Photo School. The second version is published in English, the original in German. The English was printed in 2005. I have two copies(why) they are not signed but for a couple of extra bucks I'll write my scrawl across the inside. JHAG Posted May 12, 2010 Share #18 Posted May 12, 2010 Apparently, if you look for completed listings on eBay, none was sold at these prices. Highest transaction :125 $.
wilfredo Posted May 17, 2010 Share #19 Posted May 17, 2010 Most things Leica these days have ridiculous pricing. Book sellers are jumping on the bandwagon, can you blame them?
segedi Posted May 20, 2010 Share #20 Posted May 20, 2010 The place where I got my Osterloh book has 3 of them for free... the Calgary Public Library! I'll only have it for a couple of months, am thoroughly enjoying it as I am new to rangefinders.
