This is what happens when you go on Ebay with a glass of wine in your hand. No one else bid and she became mine :D

We've only just met but, although my heart belongs to my M2s, I feel a great deal of affection for her.

I broke down yesterday and bought an M3 from an eBay seller. I have a fairly large box of cassettes of unexposed, long expired film that was calling to me. I guess I'm back in the film business. Geez... I just realized I haven't bought chemistry in over 15 years... can you still buy D-76? :D

Penzes - I keep coming back to your great, lyrical shots - I can really lose myself in them at times. This is just yet another beauty that's as dangerous as a marketing campaign: I find myself idly wondering whether I should get myself a Polaroid 600SE... :o

Thank you for the kind words.

Start marketing:

In my flickr stream you could see a few pictures made with the Polaroid 600SE. I have beside the Polaroid back also a 6X9 Film back and I think, its fun to shoot with the camera. The Polaroid pictures have some magical touch.

End of marketing. :D

My "new" M3 arrived yesterday. Now I can start burning through all that film I have lying around and haven't touched in years. It's all LONG expired, but it's going to be fun anyway.

Here's my M3 with the 50mm Summarit it came with and my M8 with the 90 Summicron. I called this image "Firsts." It's the first production M body model and the first production digital M model. The M3 is a 1959 vintage production and the M8 is a late 2008 vintage "anti-Panda" model. I shot this with my M9 and a 75mm Heliar.

Hello Hepcat,

You might consider reversing those 2 lenses:

The 90mm lens would focus & frame really well on the M3. The M3's .91X range/viewfinder was designed with just that lens in mind.

The 50mm lens used with the .68X range/viewfinder on the M8 should focus & frame reasonably well.

Best Regards,

Michael

Thanks Michael. Actually, I was just matching finishes, chrome on chrome and black on black for the portrait. ;)

I recently purchased a good condition M3 off of FM. I shot with it for the first time last week -- my first time also with a Leica film camera, ever -- and I think I'm hooked. Only thing, I feel like the focusing was a bit off in many of the photos. I was shooting with a 35 Summilux FLE, mainly landscapes and nature. At infinity, though, far off objects in the distance were not exactly in focus. I needed to focus slightly before infinity for them to be tack on. Is that a problem with the camera or lens do you think? Or is this normal behavior?

hello rcutting,

Welcome to the Forum.

Nice camera.

You are lucky to have such a nice example of a Second Optical Version, First Mechanical Version Summilux. Many people think that combination is the best 50mm Summilux made before the current model.

And, as you know, you have the best range/viewfinder version of any "M" to frame & focus a 50mm lens with.

Do you have & use a 12521 (XOOIM) rigid lens shade with it?

A rigid lens hood protects a lens from unintentional impact & damage (Its main job) as well as suppressing flare in a surprising number of places. Especially with a large aperture lens.

Better to replace a lens shade than a lens element or lens mount.

Best Regards,

Michael

Here is my M3 with an Elmar 5cm/3.5. Both purchased from a local used camera dealer. I'm in the process of shooting a roll of 1998 vintage Agfa APX 100.

Here is the rear of my M3 enclosed in a super thin lambskin cover by A&A plus a super soft black leather neck strap that really is more of a long wrist strap by Black Label Bags.
