Will look for a new car on Monday. Just setting off to watch F1 cars go vrooom round Monaco. It's starting to rain, so looks like it will be fun tomorrow. Luckily I will be watching from an apartment balcony right above the chicane, so I can go in doors if it gets too wet. Last time I went about 10 years ago, I ended up watching most of the race on TV anyway, as that is the only way you know what is going on.

Wilson, take a photo or two.  My vantage point was the Mirebeau, like you mostly on television, followed by an evening at Régine

I have only taken the 18mm lens on my CL, so it will be a general view. I have in the past taken lots of photos of F1 cars and historics from the same balcony but never look at them. I will be rushing off to catch my train, the minute the GP finishes, as with the crowds, the last time I did this, it took me three hours to get back to St Raphael-Valescure station, where I have left my car.

Reminds me of my Le Mans days. We usually left the race track half an hour before race end to catch a helicopter from the Aéroport du Mans to fly to Paris. Watched the end of the race from the helicopter close to the pits. One year we had a nice looking thunderstorm over Paris, Tour Eiffel loked great with that ugly sky around.

Ronald,

I was very lucky, the trains were all in a total mess this evening, running late or cancelled. I got a Grasse train from Monaco within a few minutes as far as Nice, then I saw that the Paris train from Nice stopped at St Raphael so went as fast as I could (not very fast) over to that platform. Of course as it was a TGV my TER ticket was not valid but the kind lady conductor took pity on me as I limped towards the train and said she would accept the ticket, as many of the other trains were so late and I was looking very tired but if someone turned up with a reservation for the seat I was in I would have to give it up. Nobody did before I got off at St Raphael, so in the end I got back to my car in record time. The last time it took three hours from Monaco. Bit of a waste of time really, as I ended up watching most of the race on TV, which I could have done in the comfort of my own house. Below is a crop from one of my photos I took from the balcony of the apartment. I was travelling light with the CL and 18mm pancake in my pocket, so no white eye'd close up of Max chasing Lewis in vain.

Wilson, lucky train story. Nice shot, now I know where your balcony was.

TGV from Paris to Le Mans was always easy, but the shuttle bus (no AC) to the race track was always a nightmare. In later years we used a shuttle to a hotel first and from there scooters to the pits.

Saw the Monaco race on a large screen from the couch, first time one of my little daughters was interested in for whom to keep the fingers crossed. That was funny.

Sorry folks last minute call for my services and I am just off to Molsheim to collect a car to deliver to the UK, so no time to look for new photo, let alone an interesting one. Given there is next to no luggage spare in the car, the only device I am taking with me is my iPhone. Not back in France until late Friday evening. Can anyone take over for me please?

Silver car on the right please; although you are welcome to try the red one in the back-ground:

It is a W 194 replica which used as many DB parts as possible, such as an engine from a W 186 300 saloon.  It was so good that at Pebble Beach the directors of DB thought it was an original.  I have a photo somewhere of yours truly driving it, which as close as I will get to the real thing.  The car in the background is W 187 220.
