mikemgb Posted June 22, 2016 Share #8741  Posted June 22, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) Sorry ... The Mercedes 300SL Gullwing Coupe was the stuff of dreams to me for many years when I was growing up. It's probably what got me fascinated with Mercedes Benz in the first place!  Here's one I haven't seen in a while:   I used to drive into London every day in the late 80s, There was a Mercedes dealer on my route that had a Gullwing sitting in the window for many years, I fell in love with that car. jaapv Posted June 22, 2016 Share #8748 Â Posted June 22, 2016 Well that didn't take long! Â The gear lever is indeed a problem, the passenger tends to place their leg very close to it. The car is a 1935, the owner asked me to drive it at his daughter's wedding, I think my English accent helped. Â IMG_1086.JPG Â Incidentally, it drives like a truck with very little discernible connection between the steering wheel and the wheels! Is that a Studebaker President behind the Rolls? mikemgb Posted June 22, 2016 Share #8749 Â Posted June 22, 2016 Is that a Studebaker President behind the Rolls? Â I don't think so, it's more likely to be a Cadillac V16, I have some more photos at home, I'll post one this evening, US central time.

wlaidlaw Posted June 23, 2016 Share #8754 Â Posted June 23, 2016 (edited) Who could miss the Harry Mann dents in the door. Rover SD1. The Harry Mann story I like was at the Geneva Show, when the TR7 was introduced. Giorgio Giugaro was talking to HM on the press day and pointed at the scallop in the door. "Please Signori Mann, tell me you didn't do that on both sides" - really cruel! Â Wilson Edited June 23, 2016 by wlaidlaw

wlaidlaw Posted June 24, 2016 Share #8758  Posted June 24, 2016 It is a Boano 250GT from I think 56. I think it is much prettier and lighter looking than the contemporary 250PF I or II. This was taken on the Colorado Grand 1000 rally in 2014.  Your turn.  Wilson Please enlighten me further, Wilson. My understanding of the Boano connection is sketchy to say the least (my copy of 'Tanner' is 42 years old!) but was he merely being subcontracted by, and copying, the designs of Pinin Farina or was he producing his very own carrozzeria for the 250GT chassis? I've only heard of the two names being used in tandem at this time and would love to hear some clarification of the true status.  Anyhow, on to another one.  As all my offerings have so far been far too easy I'll try to go a bit 'different' this time. Then again; for all I know Wilson has probably raced this one himself....  Welcome, dear visitor!
