No; not the Unipower GT, but having never heard of the car previously and googled the Uni. I have to say I think it really is a beautiful little thing. A mini (pun) Ford Mustang Fastback with the possibility of buying a Cooper S version into the bargain. What's not to like? And they were TWICE as numerous as the Marcos Mantis! I'd love one! The car here was pretty much concurrent with the Unipower but as the number of examples made reached five-figures, it is - I think it is fair to say - somewhat better-known. wlaidlaw Posted February 8, 2021 Share #14623 Posted February 8, 2021 I know what this car is, as the father of my best friend at school in Edinburgh owned James Ross & sons, where these were frequently seen. This is the later version without the tail fins. I will leave it to others. The friend and I were taken out for a very exciting drive in the very rare final version of this car by the works rally driver. Wilson

pippy Posted February 9, 2021 Share #14628 Posted February 9, 2021 Yes, Ronald! I remember reading a large number of reviews over the years in the UK Classic Car press and everyone who drove one fell for its charms. I'm running out of the more 'anonymous' type of snap so someone, soon, is going to have to come up with the name! Welcome, dear visitor! wlaidlaw Posted February 9, 2021 Share #14629 Posted February 9, 2021 I got totally the wrong car, as the rear is virtually identical, windows and all to a Harrington Alpine Le Mans. I was taken out for a run in the very rare Harrington Tiger, being driven by Peter Harper, the Rootes group works rally driver. We could speed with impunity, as it was all tricked out like a police car, where James Ross as the main Rootes agents were hoping to sell some to the various Scottish Police Forces. The Harrington had a lot more space inside than a standard Tiger. I don't think they sold any, although both Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire police had 4.7L Mk2 Tigers (I got pinched by one in my ex-works A-H 3000 BN-7 at 5 AM on the M1 and got a 6 month ban for 135MPH on the newly introduced 70 limit). Is your car the 360, 600 or 800? Wilson

wlaidlaw Posted February 9, 2021 Share #14631 Posted February 9, 2021 Ronald, would that make it the 800? There used to be one of these racing, made I think by the French importers, which humiliated cars with three or more times the size of engine, while making the most amazing noise. Here's the whole pretty little thing. This example was one of no fewer that four which turned up for the 'Motorsport at the Palace' sprint meet a few years ago, the others being a further two coupe's and one roadster. After 80 years of progress mankind has developed into a creature which instead of making cars such as the Cadillac front-and-centre has refined their design skills to provide us with all that 'stuff' seen in the background. OK; the Cadillac wouldn't be my #1 choice as a 'round town' motor and might even be considered to be a bit OTT but just to have had the cojones to create this sort of sculpture on a year-on-year basis as a regular production vehicle? In all seriousness; just have a look at the eight cars seen or part-seen in that (rather nice!) photograph and think "Which of those cars has 'style and presence'?"... How pitiful have we become? Current cars are nothing more than "white goods", very good and reliable "white goods", but just about as interesting or exciting as a refridgerator.
