The egg crate grille is very Facel Vega like but the shape is wrong. With their Chrysler engines, that would also be the star link.

Wilson

Ah! I must admit I was being very impish with that crop......:)...

Don't think of the grille as being the main one, Wilson, and you are pretty much there.

Here is the same image cropped slightly looser which has all the details to enable you to pin down the model;

Hello, Andreas.

Yes; it's a (first series) Facel Vega FV. This one, according to the caption, dates to 1954 which was the first year of production. Many years ago I saw an episode of Top Gear where Quentin Willson took one of the later Facel Vegas out for a drive. He explained the marque had held a fascination for him ever since, as a schoolboy, he first saw photographs of one in a magazine. It was, he said, as "sexy as Catherine Deneuve...dipped in chocolate!"...

Incidentally the 'Shooting Star' comment made in post 14298 was a reference to Ronald's mention of the 'Comete' as Facel had produced the Ford SAF (later Simca) Comete before setting up as a car manufacturer in their own right.

Here's the wiki link to the slightly later F-V Facel II; just have a look at the list of famous people who owned Facel Vegas...including a certain Sir Stirling Moss who (it explains elsewhere) "...would drive his Facel Vega HK500 from event to event rather than fly...";

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Facel_Vega_Facel_II

And, finally, here's a snap of the whole shooting-match;

I was about to say the same 😉

I will look for a new one.

My instinct was a Graber bodied Alvis, but the bonnet scoop was a bit small and I got sidetracked. There is much in common. My Citroen SM was bought by a French architect who also owned a Facel Vega. He said the firm offered to build one for Charles de Gaulle, but he refused on the grounds the engine was American. So 4 cylinder DS for him!

The “shooting star” ref also had a slight echo with the fact that the HEMI engine is AFAIK correctly titled a “FireDome”. I think the rogue-ish ministère in “Speakerine” might drive one (Fab retro French TV series!)

Thank you Philip, also for the additional information. The second crop was pretty distracting in particular as after the first one I thought in the right direction but of later models that did not have this mini-grille (where I first thought that thus was the real one).

Here is the next riddle. Apologies for the bad quality but it was pretty dark in there.

In the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart i saw a Speedster without a Windscreen. Looks pretty much like that one.

This is good enough! Very likely the same car although I did not see it in Stuttgart but in a temporary exhibition in Linz, Austria.

It is a 911 Carrera 3.2 Speedster study from 1987. I somehow understand why it did not go into production ...

As a young guy I was able to drive the "serial" version of this Speedster when it was brand new. Unfortunately NO FUN because it was heavy rain for the whole 500 German Autobahn kms I had it. Imagine the FLAT hood and a top speed of maybe 150 km/h for some miles (average speed was maybe 90 km/h).

And no „Wet Mode“ back then.  But the prototype in my pic would have been worse 😉

This is from Stuttgart Porsche Museum, maybe the same one? How did you get in and out?
