They were also made in Iran for a long time as the Khodro Paykan. I think Chrysler sold the body dies to Iran after the end of production in the UK. Also sold as the Humber Sceptre and Sunbeam Sceptre with an ugly fast back, that cynically was called a "slow back". Like many British cars of the era, it was very under-developed. The Rootes 1725cc engine owed its origins to the just post war Hillman side valve engine, mildly updated with OHV, an aluminium cylinder head and two extra main bearings. The bore cooling passages were inadequate, having been designed for an engine putting out around 30-35 BHP, not nearly 90 BHP as in the Sceptre or even more when fitted with the optional Rootes competition department hot cam, high compression big valve head and dual 40 DCOE Weber carburettor kit. Bore wear was very high leading to a smoky exhaust and high oil consumption. My brother had one of these competition dept Humber Sceptres and when I took the cylinder head off at around 30,000 miles, the bores were almost conical with wear.

Yes, IkarusJohn, it is a Hillman Hunter or, to be precise, a Hillman Hunter Royal 660, an upmarket Australian variation which had the Interior trim from the Humber Sceptre and (I think this might have been optional rather than standard) the cylinder head and twin carburettors from the Sunbeam Rapier.

I think this particular car was a 1970 model, but I'm not sure.  I took the photograph at the 2015 All British Day at King's School, Parramatta.

And, as Wilson said, it was also assembled in Iran as the Paykan form 1966 to 2005, although a pickup variant (which didn't exist elsewhere) continued until 2015.

Here's the whole view:

I must admit that my knowledge of the Australian car market is more or less inexistent.

You are not missing anything.  Manufacturing of cars has ceased, and now every car is imported, mostly from Asia and a little from Europe.

It is still interesting historically though.

Good morning Jim, and welcome to this thread.  Yes there were a few interesting cars historically, but none that were great that I can think of.

Certainly none great - we also manufactured cars for a while and they all leaked.  Look at the shutlines in the picture above!  My father changed his car at least every three years.  My Audi is 7 years old this year, and runs like new.

Will post something interesting, if not “great” when I find a suitable subject.

My father used to change his cars regularly too - at least until he retired, then he hung on to the same car until he gave up driving.  Before he had cars, he had motorbikes, the first one was a BSA (don't know which model) and then a Triumph Twin.  Then came marriage and he sold the Triumph and bought a pre-war Rover Ten.  Then we came to Australia and the sequence of cars was Mark VIII Hillman Minx, Seies II Hillman Minx, Citroen DS19, Jowett Javelin (the first car I drove, although not on a public road), Austin Freeway, Austin 1800 Mark I (the car I learnt to drive on), Holden HT Premier, Audi Fox, Ford Escort Ghia and, after retirement, a Mitsubishi Sigma.

Me? I tend to hold on to my cars a bit longer, and I waited a few years after I got my licence before I bought one.  My firsy car was a1976 Holden Gemini (sort of like a local version of the Opel Kadett) followed by a 1990 Mitsubishi Magna which, in turn, was replaced by a 2015 Skoda Octavia.  As well as those, I've had a 1962 Wolseley 15/60 for the last 16 years.

Who would like to go since John hasn't a suitable photo?

Allow me to take a crack at it with this example. Make & model, please. If you can correctly guess that, you probably know that this model was only produced for two years.

That's it...............I thought it would take a little longer and require more guesses.

Your turn, Gerd.

Nice car, although they did flex.  I had three of the GTV Tipo 105.37.
