You are correct that it is old, but it's not a Jaguar. However, the car manufacturer in question originated in the same city as Jaguar.

Based on that I googled ( not quite sure that 100% ethical but frustration makes men do bad things ) "British Automobile manufacturers based in Coventry" and got hundreds of names……….consequently, for my last attempt I'll go with Riley, who operated there from 1899 to 1948

You've won this one fair and square.

Simon -

We seem to be at an impasse. Hints, or further images, or both?

Of all the pre war motoring manufacturers that were established in Coventry, this is one of the few to still exist, although they no longer make cars.

I had to do some searching for this one but I like the googling because I learn so much more than I would by just walking around at events. So this morning there was a Classic Car Event in Antwerp where I saw some other Alvis cars and also the following which is for you to find. Sorry but no color to help at all

Let's see,………Zagato aluminum body, left-hand drive, 4-bolt alloy Borrani wheels  - I'd say it's porobably an italian car, and given those features and the rounded body shape, that would most likely make it an Alfa or a Lancia from the mid-fifties.
