OK, this is a Neumann-Neander "Fahrmaschine".

 

Ernst Neumann, artist and designer, called himself with the latin translation "Neander" and was a german manufacturer of motorcycles and designer of microcars.

 

At the age of 16 (in 1887!) he built a steam engine into a trike. In 1899/1900 he built a trike with an own motor construction. Later he designed cars and yachts.

 

In 1904 he toured europe with a motorcycle:

In the 1920´s he had his own motorcycle company which built about 2.000 motorcycles under the brands name. Later he worked on motorcycles for Opel, which used his construction of a pressed steel frame, which allowed them to build a motorcycle in only 4 hrs compared to 15 hrs before. About 6.000 made.

Mercedes and BMW copied this steering design for some of their 1990´s prototypes and today you can buy a Piaggio MP3 scooter using this interesting technique:

I suppose that some form of compliment is appropriate, since you have stumped a group with a collective massive knowledge base. On the other hand, this particular offering did not bring back any memories, did not stir any emotions, did not have any historical importance, and was not much fun. Perhaps I am grumpy because for the first time, I was completely stumped, and could not even come up with a guess. Who else is grumpy?

Gents, i knew it might be a hard nut to crack but I didn´t want to make you grumpy.

I wasn´t sure if the huge three-wheeler, microcar and motorcyclist community especially

in the UK may have the answer right on spot.

 

I understand this machine cannot bring back memories to most of us, but according to historical importance I´m quit sure this was partly

a mother of microcars coming up in the 1950´s and when you see the 1990´s/2000s prototypes of high end leisure vehicles (BMW/Mercedes)

and city scooters plus future designs which will come up (bicycles, e-bikes etc.) we may see some of Ernst Neumanns designs and ideas in the future.

 

He was WAY AHEAD for his time.

Rather than see this fun thread fade away, I'll add one. Identify the car this is on. I'm sure somebody will very quickly guess the era, and nearly as quickly guess the car's marque.

I don't know but some thoughts that might help get closer to the target.

The word on the hub seems to end with -- are or even .. tare which makes me think Italian or Spanish.

Two prong knock off hubs were more prevalent than these 3 prong hubs (but who would like to hit all that chrome).

My first thoughts were British of the fifties or sixties when such wheels were very popular but this would seem to be much wider than the sort of wheel fitted to most British cars. The valve also implies a tubeless tire which would imply a later period, say seventies onwards.

So just to take a wild guess could this be fitted to a Mustang - it kind of fits the bling image? Or perhaps an E type Jaguar?

Even some Ferraris used this kind of wheels (250 GTL, for instance, see under)... but the engraving imho doesn't fit into...
