Lovely, and the designer admired Scaglietti's work (think Testa Rosa from 1957). I suspect this is a kit car from somebody like Devon from about 1960. Probably from the US. Please post more photos once somebody identifies it.

Note, its Devin with an "i" and Kent with a "t":D

 

I had a friend who raced a Devin bodied Echidna in vintage races in the late '80s and it was an absolute brute!

 

Okay, here's one a little smaller and even more lovely. No points for guessing the coachbuilder!

Thanks, Kent. It was a lucky guess, from an era long past, by a gearhead who has "killed" many of his brain cells over the years. :) BTW, I agree with Pete on that 202 mph Devin. The Scarabs had 385 hp and could "only" do 170. And now, lads, have at it!

Kent - All the shots are terrific, and the OSCA is a tiny beauty.

 

John - There is an ungainliness to this vehicle which suggests either a one-off, or another kit car, though one I doubt I've ever seen. I can't even suggest the country since, for example, a Yank might have built it arround a British car around the late 1950s.

Disco Volante! Actually that is something of a misnomer, it was officially the Alfa Romeo 6C300CM. What a rare piece that is! I've never had the privilege of seeing one in person. Do you have any history on that particular car?

Stu, I really fell for that OSCA. I've loved the MT4s since I saw my first one a very long time ago. That 1600 coupe would be a dream to drive, at least if I could fit in it. The 1600 coupes were, I believe the last of the OSCAs and thus the last of the Maserati brothers' cars.

Are you sure ? The superb Touring-designed Disco Volante, was, imho, more curved at the tail...

Luigi, I think you are thinking of the 1900 C52 which was the "real" Disco Volante, either coupe or spider, with body by Touring. The 6C300 CMs which ran at the Mille Miglia as well as other races in '53 were sometimes referred to as Disco Volantes. A coupe finished 2nd at the Mille and a spider won the Supercortemaggiore. The bodies were *I think* by Colli.

 

Of course I could be totally wrong from the beginning! :p

Kent, you are correct. This is indeed a 1952 6C 3000 CM Colli Spider. The factory built four coupes and two spiders. Only one of the spiders exists and is in the Alfa Romeo Museo Storica in Arese. It only had one win but that was in the hands of J. M. Fangio. Luigi is correct in that the Touring designed Disco Volante cars were more rounded at the tail. They were more of a race car styling concept than a real competition car, as they used the iron block 1900 four cylinder engine, however the later D-Type Jaguars took many styling cues from these cars. Stuart, I think these cars are more purposeful than ungainly, and this example is certainly not a kit car but is indeed a one-off recreation. It would have to, to be in private hands! And one last thing... this car has California licence plates and is street legal. Back to you, Kent.

Thanks John! I wonder what the basis for that car was? Maybe a 6C2500 or 2600? I've been to the Alfa museum twice and both times the 6C3000 was out! I guess I'll just have to keep going back.

 

Sad Alfa day for me today. Time to put both of them into storage for the winter. At least its a nice day for one more top-down drive.
