Since I had to sell my M8.2 to fund a portion of the M9 I guess I do not miss the M8.2. I took some great shots with it. I do not miss the crop factor or the UV/IR filters at all. I wish the M9 had the sapphire screen though. I have not printed any M9 shots yet, my day job is getting in the way it seems.

Hi Hell,

 

After two months of use of the M9, and as i said in my tests ** last year , M8 still has a bright future ahead of him, if we compare to other brands.

M8 and M9 has the Leica lens that gives "more" in your picture ...

I kept my M8 and with M9, color seems to be a little better but I also keep the film for the color and black and white : film seems to have "more material". I call it like in "high fidelity sound"(compared to "high fidelity" photo)

about the shutter noise I must recognize that the M9 is quieter

Having grown up with film and only shooting digital the last five years, full frame made the whole difference for me. It was like going back to a real camera (I know this is a very subjective matter). The rest of the benefits (better on high iso, resolution, colors, no UV/IR, etc) of the M9 was like an extra bonus, but would not make me change if it wasn't for the full frame. Better high iso performance comes in very handy in low light though, was not very impressed by the M8 there.

 

Had to sell the M8 to finance the M9, but does not miss it a bit.

I did like my M8.2 a whole lot, but I have fallen in love with the M9. I am not technically proficient, but even from the very first shot with the M9, the color seems to jump out of the monitor! Framing is much more natural since I have been using full-frame Canons... Focusing with the 90 cron is much easier... Extensive cropping can still produce a decent print... Is it a perfect camera? No, considering the cost. In my hands, it is not good with close-up shots. I am thinking of buying an R lens to use with my Canon 1DsMkII for macro. Tri.:)

You know I love the M8, but I love the M9 more :eek: The extra 1.5 stops (nearly two, actually) and the revelation of the full frame with, say, the 35 Lux is simply fantastic.

 

From the original M8, the 75 framelines are way better too; as is the shutter / release (I love the soft release).

 

Little things, yes, and the M8 is still wonderful. But those little things all add up!

And, no, Jamie, ;) those extra stops won't be enough to convince me, neither the FF will.

As you noticed, I shoot close more often than not, so in a way 1,33 goes my way.

But I certainly appreciate what you get with yours. Let's say I'm not that impatient…

By the way, what would the M10 have to be groundbreaking after the M9 ?

Hmm. I don't agree on the crop. It's just a crop, not a magnifcation. So anything close you can do with a full-frame. But when your back is against the wall, it's amazing how much wider a 28 feels ;) And how much nicer overall the 75 is (a length I didn't like much on the M8).

All the M10 needs--for me--from the M9

 

  • rock-solid and super quick buffer / writing capability, as well as general SD card compatibility, not for machine-gunning but so that you simply don't ever have to think about it, or lose shots, or do power switch incantations. Both the M8 and M9 are super sensitive to write-time conditions, and there probably are still minor, but annoying, bugs there that need fixing.
  • Come to think of it, dual-cards would be nice, but I don't know where they'd go :)
  • some repeatable and relatively simple way to actually field adjust the RF / lens interface would be great.
  • one or two more stops with noise & DR levels at current ISO 800 or so (I don't really need ISO 50,000 or anything like that).
  • better (higher resolution) LCD

That's it for me. Not revolutionary, but a built-in diopter correction, some kind of optional magnification of the patch, and finding a place for the PC socket to go would be nice, too :)

Agree with all that. I guess an M9.2 wilkl take care of the first half of it, then it will be the M10.

I'll muster unsuspected resources to fight back any tentation. I'll be the Kung Fu Panda (even if far less rotund) of the M9. :D
