michali Posted March 17, 2010 Share #1 Posted March 17, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) M8 & VISOFLEXIII & 65mm Leitz Elmar Yesterday was one of the saddest days I've ever experienced. I had to put my best friend to sleep after the vet picked up the early signs of what would have been a long and debilitating illness. Her advice to me was to do it while he was still in good condition and before he started suffering. Rocky was a cross American Staffie & Pit Bull, the most intelligent and loyal, dog I have ever known, with an incredible sense of humor. I found him at an animal shelter 9 years ago, aged 10 months, he had been rescued from a dog fighting syndicate. Thanks for viewing. stuny Posted March 17, 2010 Share #2 Posted March 17, 2010 Mike - He was a beauty, I hope your grief passes quickly and you retain memories of the good times always. I think more people should adopt rescued pets rather than suppor the breeding mills. There's a man not far from here who trains virtually all the dogs used in film, TV and Broadway stage. He rescued every one of his animals from shelters.

I agree with Stuart. My wife and I volunteer with a rescue organization and find homes for many dogs and cats that make wonderful companions which would otherwise be destroyed. I fully agree with you both, I've never got a dog from a breeder, always from animal shelters/rescue. I always encourage friends and family to do the same. best
jaapv Posted March 17, 2010 Share #5 Posted March 17, 2010 I feel for you, we still mourn our 17 year old friend we had put to sleep three years ago. We found him in a plastic bag in Greece when he was about five weeks old. However, it is compensated by two friends we have now, rescued dogs again, this time from Portugal, brilliant, affectionate and once again the best friends one could wish for. Rescued dogs are the best dogs.

allamande Posted March 19, 2010 Share #11 Posted March 19, 2010 Mike, I share your sadness in this tremendous loss. As Stuart says, I hope you can find comfort in all the good you two brought into each other's lives. He will always be around even if only as a good thought, a good memory, and with these wonderful images. Carry on his legacy with a new rescue. All the best, Ece
