SiOnara Posted February 9, 2010 Share #21 Posted February 9, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I am about to purchase my M8. I am a bit scared to go for a used model and since the ExDemo models are about £500 more expensive, I think I will opt for one of those. If it gives me 3 years of service I will be happy. Cant wait! Advertisement Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 Hi SiOnara, Take a look here Three Years And Counting. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaapv Posted February 10, 2010 Share #22 Posted February 10, 2010 Two of them, both well over three years. Although they are joined by an M9 now, they will not be sold
brianv Posted February 17, 2010 Share #23 Posted February 17, 2010 My oldest Digital SLR is 17 years old, a Kodak DCS200ir. It still works, and I occasionally use it. Monochrome Infrared. My "newer" DSLR's are 12 yrs, 10 years, and 8 years. All working. So- I have high expectations from my Leica. The Leica III is still working, and it is over 75 years old. Revdockj Posted February 18, 2010 Share #24 Posted February 18, 2010 Two and a half years, so far, of complete enjoyment--not a single issue. Now have an M9 but I am using them both. Different cameras but both are a joy to use. Ken
farnz Posted February 18, 2010 Share #25 Posted February 18, 2010 ... Now have an M9 but I am using them both. Different cameras but both are a joy to use. Ken, I'm interested to know where you would use your M8 in preference to your M9 and vice versa: is it simply a case of where you need more telephoto you use your M8 and where you need a wider angle you use your M9 or do other factors come into play? Pete.
baretta Posted February 18, 2010 Share #26 Posted February 18, 2010 Sold my 5dmk2 and bought M8. Now ready for my next Euro trip together with Dlux4....
Revdockj Posted February 18, 2010 Share #27 Posted February 18, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Pete, Yes, that and I am more apt to use the M8 in more rugged weather conditions--I tend to baby it less than the M9. Part of it, too, is that in three years I have become so comfortable with certain M8/lense combinations, I don't want to give that up (M8 and 24mm Elmarit, M8 and 75mm Sumicron, to name only two). Regards. Ken
farnz Posted February 18, 2010 Share #28 Posted February 18, 2010 That makes sense. Cheers. Pete
Revdockj Posted February 18, 2010 Share #29 Posted February 18, 2010 Pete, I forgot to mention maybe the most important reason of all: I can't afford a second M9 body (and couldn't find one even if I could afford it), so now when I want to shoot with two bodies and lenses without having to change lenses I can do so. Printmaker Posted February 18, 2010 Share #30 Posted February 18, 2010 2 years, 10 months, 3 weeks, 3 days. Never a problem, always a joy. Tom
jobe Posted February 18, 2010 Share #31 Posted February 18, 2010 +n... 11/20/06 and 4 lenses later. Happy as a clam! Still keep D2X and its compliment of lenses. Use mainly for times when I need a flash. Joe
stephen.w Posted February 18, 2010 Share #32 Posted February 18, 2010 I talked myself out of buying an X1 after testing it (slow AF and inept MF) and am now looking for a 2nd hand M8.2. Feel entirely vindicated in my decision after reading this thread.
brianv Posted February 19, 2010 Share #33 Posted February 19, 2010 And no one mentioned what a good-looking camera it is. My 2nd hand Leica M8. Hope that helps confirm your decision!
Maggie_O Posted February 19, 2010 Share #34 Posted February 19, 2010 I've had my M8 since August of 2007 and loved every minute with it. A chrome M8 with some vintage glass on it IS a thing of beauty! Here's mine with its newest old lens:
