digitalfx Posted January 29, 2010 Share #1 Posted January 29, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Heading out to the Super Bowl w/ my son for a one-day trip. I plan on bringing the M8 and my 24mm Summilux...should I bring more than one lens or keep it simple. We are sitting in the nose bleeds, so dont think a longer lens will help much. dan428s Posted January 29, 2010 Share #2 Posted January 29, 2010 It depends on what you want to take pictures of. But this is one of those times I am glad I have a 1D mark III with telephoto lens along with my M8. Heading out to the Super Bowl w/ my son for a one-day trip. digitalfx Posted January 29, 2010 Author Share #3 Posted January 29, 2010 It depends on what you want to take pictures of. But this is one of those times I am glad I have a 1D mark III with telephoto lens along with my M8. I have a 5DII as well along with a dozen lenses...but the Super Bowl wont allow professional cameras or any camera with a lens over 6". So I think the M8 is the way to go. I would prefer to bring my X1...but it hasnt arrived yet. I just want to capture the experience, its our first SB. Crazy fans, the atmosphere and the obligatory shot of yourself in the stadium. steamboat Posted January 30, 2010 Share #8 Posted January 30, 2010 The action takes place in the stands. Your one camera and lens will be great. Have a great time at the game and good luck.
jimleicam3 Posted January 30, 2010 Share #9 Posted January 30, 2010 For 3 hours forget about photography and just enjoy the game! Use your 24mm for shots before and afterwards Just going to the SB should be enough. Bring a P&S take some photos of the crowds, but no matter what camera, lens combo you bring your photos won't be as good as the ones in SI the next week. Sit back and enjoy the Who!! steamboat Posted January 30, 2010 Share #11 Posted January 30, 2010 I wish the X1 was here You have a great camera and lens. Why are you wishing for a second tier camera when you have the best? Take your M + 24 and enjoy the game.

Take your M + 24 and enjoy the game. for simplicity...the M8+24lux is pretty heavy combo and doesnt exactly fit in your pocket. BTW- just found this, I wonder if the M8 wiill fit in a pocket: Travel Vest from SCOTTEVEST/SeV - Men's Travel Pocket Vest with Hidden Pockets – Men's Black Vest, Red Vest and Sand Travel Vest – Better than a Money Belt or Fanny Pack
digitalfx Posted January 30, 2010 Author Share #14 Posted January 30, 2010 For 3 hours forget about photography and just enjoy the game! LeicaMSeattle Posted January 30, 2010 Share #17 Posted January 30, 2010 I shot the NFL for 12 seasons and this was my usual list of tools: (3) Nikon D3 bodies Camera 1 - Nikkor 400mm f2.8 lens for general action on the field Camera 2 - Nikkor 13-75mm f2.8 Zoom for close-up jubilation and action in the endzone Camera 3 - Nikkor 70-200 f2.8 Zoom (Spare body) for near half of the field action If you're going to be watching from the stands, take a point and shoot. Don't worry about spilled beverages and the like with an M8 and have a great time!!
melissah Posted February 1, 2010 Share #18 Posted February 1, 2010 i agree that the m and the 24 will do you fine. youre not going to get the actual game shots. you can go to espn or whomever after for that. what you can get is the fans and the scene. those should be terrific shots. if you concentrate on those shots i think you will be delighted with the results. leicaMseattle suggests a regular p&s to prevent spills and such. i dis-agree. there are real photos to be had in the stands. have at it and dont for to share with all of us after! good times, melissa
digitalfx Posted February 1, 2010 Author Share #19 Posted February 1, 2010 Thanks for all the suggestions. M8+24lux is what I am bringing. Life is too short to bring a P&S.
Rick Posted February 1, 2010 Share #20 Posted February 1, 2010 Take a cell phone and snap pictures of yourself and son and text them real-time to all your jealous friends. With this simple set up you'll have both hands free for beer and a pair of binoculars.
