I have no wish to slow down or divert this wonderful thread but I'd like to let members know that I've started a thread here for older glass using any camera. I have pictures I'd like to post in this thread using old glass but alas they're shot with an M9, M2, or IIIf so regrettably I can't.

Please follow the link and have a look and if you have pictures to post there then please do because we'd love to see what pictures with your older glass look like.:)

Pete.

J-9, wide-open, Leica M8 by anachronist1, on Flickr

Jupiter-9 in Contax mount, modified for Nikon S-Mount, on a Nikon RF to LTM adapter, on an LTM to M-Adapter. Got all that? Brings up the 9cm framelines, and focuses properly from 1.15m to 25m at F2.

Jupiter-9, Wide-Open at F2, on the M8 by anachronist1, on Flickr

1975 Lens with a Mix of glass, 1975 ZOMZ front element, 1959 KMZ rear triplet, and 1960 ZOMZ middle triplet. Rear module moved in to reduce focal length to focus on the Nikon across range.

I've found that the older triplets are better than the newer ones. Replacing the "perfect glass" 1975 triplets with the older ones made for a much sharper lens. It's as sharp as my 8.5cm f2 Nikkor now, much lighter.

nice and smooth!

is your lens a type 1 or 2?

I have an old Lux too which is very early I think with a serial number starting 164xxxx.I believe, but not sure that this is a type 1.

Thanks Andy,

mine is... type 3! The latest incarnation before the Asph was introduced. It has the very same shape of this latter. To be clear it's the one with built-in collapsible shade and E 46 filter. Serial no. starting by 3760xxx.

Cheers,

Bruno

P.S. Nice shot of yours with the Elmar (and nice kid)! I have a Red Scale and it's a jewel of a lens.

Andy,

when I was a kid the age of yours I used to make myself simple toys out of pieces of scrapped wood. I once complained about bad tools when something didn't go well. It was then that my father taught me one of the most precious lessons I ever received. He simply quoted an old saying: "The unskilled craftsman always blames his tools". Your remarkable pictures positively prove his point.

Otherwise... the model! ... it must be the model! :)

Cheers,

Bruno
