... getting slightly younger with the old long lenses on the M8:

Example images of the Telyt 200/4 from the late 1950s. Again, only the head of the Telyt screwed into the Focorapid (it screws in directly without an adapter).

The optical performance of this later 200 mm Telyt is slightly better than that of its predecessor, especially if opened past aperture 5,6. Also its close up performance is quite good!

In contrast, the helical focusing mount is bigger, heavier and slower than that of the older design. As a result, I mainly use the Telyt 200/4 with the Focorapid. Stabilized with Pistock-C.

However, its head protrudes more from the Focorapid and therefore is balanced less good with the Focorapid than that of the older Telyt 200/4,5 (this is important for the Focorapid's focusing 'behaviuor').

Concerning the handling, the older Telyt 200/4,5 appears to be the better choice; for optical performance, the newer Telyt 200/4 is the better choice.

Best,

Excellent pic - it has a 'film' feel which I like... one of the reasons that I recently purchased a CL because I was getting frustrated by the overly sharp, 'plastic' images seen lately.

I know what you mean...here is mine, also with an 'Oldie'

Hi Aviator: I like the 'atmosphere' that your Canon Ninety gives. Makes a simple bench on a sidewalk has the visual sensibility of a close up image of an architectural diorama. Quite Pleasing.

Thanks For Sharing - Shoot More with it - I'd love to see em.

@Aviator

This Canon indeed looks like a very interesting lens!

It is completely different in looks wide open to the Canon 100/2 LTM, I bought a few weeks ago, which could well be just the opposite in image character - tack sharp, contrasty, right from wide open!

I would like to see more of the 90/1.9 as well.

Thank You, i use the Canon 85 1,9 only on rare accasions because it is very heavy and I am still waiting for the viewfinder magnifier.

Most times I use a M-Rokkor 90mm as "walkaround tele" on the M8.

As for other old lenses:

Here is one shot with the 1962 Summicron rigid wide open and another one with my favorite lens for the M8 the 40mm Summicron C from 1974 (quite new :))

M8 c/w 21/3.4 SA & Cornerfix (in progress). Lovely lens! Very sharp centrally although corners show some drop off of micro detail. Metering is by guesstimate - I can usually hit about 60% acceptable exposure first shot much of the time so far.

Andy,

that's mean :D. I really would like having a 28 mm Summaron.

For the M8's format, it appears very suited, from its full opening onwards .

Best,
