Hi, previous comments have pretty much covered all bases, but I will elaborate on one aspect. You apparently paid for a new camera with all that goes with the new camera. A used camera is one that has been (one or more times) sold in retail - regardless of condition, it is used. A demo is (sort of) used but carries a factory guarantee, sometimes equal to new. Get the new camera (which includes the correct box, filters, warranty and paperwork) you paid for. regards, ron

=== UPDATE ===

Hopefully the last update on this topic....

Today I called Solms and spoke to 3 different people, the final one being M8 support. Each of these people tried to verify my serial number....

Correct, I wrote verify....as nobody could find the serial number on my camera in any of their systems!!!

Anyway, that did it for me....I called the Dutch distributor and explained what happened, expressed my concerns and told them I am done with this camera and that I wanted to return it.

They then dealt with my dealer who confirmed the actions to me and said that I will get the next first M9 they get...so 2-3 weeks waiting is expected.

Camera is now still at my home, but nicely packed in the box.

Can't wait to get the M9....

Maybe it is just me, but when I pay for a product full price and something like serial numbers don't match, and even Leica Solms doesn't know about it....something is not right.

Moreover, if I kept the camera, I would not enjoy the camera...I would look at it, or pick it up in my hands and know that something was not as smooth as it should have been.

Call me crazy....which I probably am, but that is just me.

I feel better now...

Superior marketing - upsell by blundering :D If you enjoyed your short foray with the M8.2, you'll be estatic about M9, I'm sure :) Excellent service to compensate for trouble by fast-tracking you in the M9 line.

Yes, but somehow I don't think it was a marketing trick this time around....they will still have to correct the mistake and sell the M8.2...

As far s service, absolutely agree on the Dutch distributor part...but I was somewhat dissapointed by Solms CS....when I spoke to them, I only got, you don't need the box, you don't need the certificate...we can try to organize the warranty, you need the warranty....when I buy something this expensive I would expect 100% service, and everything being correct...no but's and ifs.

Afterall, if you buy a small car for same price you would expect everything to be delivered in accordance.

You surely feel better, expecially if they simply give you the M9 in exchange (i.e. - no more money) for the "strange" M8.2... :)... for the hassle you suffered it would have been a very fine compensation...

That would be a very happy new year Luigi! ...but somehow I don't think it will happen...

I agree with you. I seriously doubt you will get a M9 for your working perfectly but no record of serial # M8.x camera. But one never knows until the deal is done.

If you get an M9, let us know if the serial number matches the one on the box?

In all seriousness, if you do get an M9 I would say you came out ahead on this deal, that's a major savings.

Hey, you may have started something here, I bet a bunch of us are going to check the serial number on our boxes. Mine matches, I know that from before.

===FINAL UPDATE===

The M9 arrived...I am charging battery right now.

Guess what...serial numbers are all OK, and I managed to register it.

O the price....as I was expecting I had to pay the difference...and the dealer wanted me to pay 2% extra charge for using a VISA...

I looked at the guy and said..excuse me?

I walked out without paying the extra 2%.

Lets hope everything will be OK with the M9...

Can't wait to turn it on.

What box did you get with it...?

Funny you mention this Brett..... I bought and paid for a Summicron 35mm. On the box it said 35mm Summicron....but the box was quite heavy...and when I opened it I found a Noctilux 50mm....

Excellent!!!

Fun never stops with Leica... you never know what you get until you open the box!
