Actually if you go here you can see the same shots but captured with the Sigma DP1 and a Pentax camera.

Although it is very difficult to compare similar images, I chose the colorful mural. To me, the X1 rendering was clearly the best both for colour and sharpness. And I have an open mind being also a Pentax enthusiast.

Well John, that makes it easy for you to not own another Leica.

I will wait for RAW files to process and examine.

I keep waiting. When Leica produces a quality product that justifies its premium pricing and provides quality service in line with being a top tier manufacturer I will buy another Leica. In the meantime I keep looking and waiting...

P.S.

The list of flaws for the M9 and those identified for the X1 probably mean I will have to wait for an M10 or X2.

I think we are still in the infancy of small digital cameras that perform like DSLRs. These are first attempts and early adopters will have to pay a premium. Soon, most P&S cameras will have large sensors and they will lower in price.

Hi,

here is a crop from one of the dcfever-pictures. There are some strange effekts in the small details. Problem with the jpeg-compression?

Regards

@bradhusick

I have no RAW. The jpeg ist from the sample picture link from the first post. At the page are other pictures with the same motiv. In the Pentax optio pictures are more details at the same parts of the picture.

When I compare the X1 and the Pentax jpegs side by side the X1 picture ist sharper and free of noise, but has the strange effekts in the background. The Pentax pictures has not.

My question is: could this an bug in the pre release firmware or has anybody an idea about the reasons?

Thanks

So what's your obsession hanging out on all the Leica forums and posting negative after negative comment about each and every one of Leica's products, nothing better to do in life? :(:(:(

John, every Leica lens (pretty much) justifies its premium pricing--and the lenses (along with design simplicity) are truly why you use Leica products.

I have no doubt that the combo of a decent (Sony) sensor and 24 Elmarit ASPH will make many people very happy with the X1. It's early days--the JPEG engine will get sorted and serious users will shoot RAW anyway.

But it's not going to be for everyone, surely, and probably not for you--we get that. But that comes down to knowing what you want to do photographically first, then buy the camera that suits. That's not going to be a Leica for everyone.

And truth to tell, for your needs, from your posts over the last couple of years, I think a Leica is something close to a combination of too much work and optical overkill at the same time.

And while you're making wild statements, what exactly are the flaws of the M9 that won't / can't be fixed in firmware? See--when you make statements like that they're just inflammatory and I feel bound to call you on them.

Let's put it another way: just because you can't use an M9 (or M8 for that matter) without running into trouble doesn't mean others don't get great results from the glass / RF combo--and those results justify the premium price IMO. Nikon has no 24 Elmarit or anything like it IMO (and most definitely not on a smaller camera). They don't have a 50 Lux R or M. They don't have a 19R. They don't have a 35 Lux or anything like an 80R (though there, at least, they have a reasonable 85 1.4 at least).

Again, YMMV. But I have to say I honestly don't know why you'd think about buying something with a 24 Elmarit when your Nikons so clearly satisfy you anyway?

Do you even like shooting at a 35mm FOV? Or would you prefer a zoom? A tele?

I'm asking because I honestly want to know where you're coming from...

Could you point me to those strange effects aside from the pic above? Just curious.
