Advertisement Posted July 6, 2006 Posted July 6, 2006 Hi Gerard K, Take a look here Havana girl. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
tomparis Posted July 6, 2006 Share #2 Posted July 6, 2006 Nice eyes! The backgroud might be a little bit too much out of focus, the boys eyes look strange and a bit more DOF would include these boys into the situation. Your scan may also need a bit of unsharp masking. Still, these eyes are beautiful! Thomas
stuny Posted July 6, 2006 Share #3 Posted July 6, 2006 Gerard - Exquisite light, color, framing, DOF, bokeh and sujct. Wonderful! Stuart
gverdon Posted July 6, 2006 Share #4 Posted July 6, 2006 Superb. I don't know about DOF... the fact one have to guess what are the exact expressions of the background kids adds tension and helps to focus on this extraordinary face. Again, beautiful. jmr Posted July 6, 2006 Share #5 Posted July 6, 2006 Gerard, I agree with Thomas, I find the bright effect of boy's eyes a little distracting. Other than that, it's a nice capture.
robert_parker Posted July 6, 2006 Share #6 Posted July 6, 2006 The pose and look are utterly striking - I think I'd want a bit more DoF too though as I think she would still be able to stand out of the context of a more detailed scene

rvincent Posted July 6, 2006 Share #8 Posted July 6, 2006 Gerard, Wonderful image. I really like the choice of narrow dof. A splendid use of the Summicron. Robert

Gerard K Posted July 6, 2006 Author Share #10 Posted July 6, 2006 Thanks to everyone for the compliments. As bright as it was, this was metered handheld for 60th @ f.2- I really wanted her eyes sharp, and yes I have applied a little unsharp mask to bring out her hair and eyes a little. Cheers, Gerard. icemendicant Posted July 6, 2006 Share #11 Posted July 6, 2006 Beautiful shot - really striking. I agree with your choice of DOF, I think a sharper background might have distracted from the impact of her expression. All the best, Dan
lambroving Posted July 7, 2006 Share #12 Posted July 7, 2006 Gerald, Great catch.! I much prefer this to the other shot which I think is too tight. Agree with Dan about the DOF. Any more would have been distracting. This is one fantastic expression you caught and the framing suits me fine. Well done!

Gerard K Posted July 7, 2006 Author Share #17 Posted July 7, 2006 Dan, William, Graham, RIchard, Ron and IIan, thanks so much for your comments. It's one of those shots where your never quite sure if you have it until you get the tranny's back. For me this was a 4 week wait till I got back home, then you have that wonderful satisfaction coming back from the processors and seeing it under the loupe for the first time Ahhh the satisfaction of travelling with film.... wilfredo Posted July 11, 2006 Share #18 Posted July 11, 2006 Gerard: This is one of your best shots yet. The expression on this little girls face is priceless. Keeping the rest of the picture out of focus puts the attention on her, where it should be, she really stands out and is literally the focus of our attention. I hope you print and frame this one! Cheers, Wilfredo+ http://www.BenitezRivera.com
fotografr Posted July 11, 2006 Share #19 Posted July 11, 2006 Superb shot! I also like the way the shallow DOF places all the attention on her face and those huge, beautiful eyes.
wilyum Posted July 11, 2006 Share #20 Posted July 11, 2006 I love the bright, alert expression on the girl's face. She is so very alive! Nice picture, Gerard. Best regards, Bill
