A wonderful resource this thread, and equally annoying, as try as I might, I can't seem to code the older V2 Elmarit 28/2.8 I have. Easiest option, if it were possible, would be to replace the mount but this is non-user removable by the look of it.

Made a template, got the Sharpie, did the business, but it still is not recognized.

Also, from the table of codes, there is no specific V2 option. I have tried all the other 28mm lens options though. Anyone successfully done an older 28/2.8?

thank you for the reply. I am not 100% sure, but pretty sure it is V2. No, there are no screws on the flange, this would have made the job simpler, I would have replaced the flange and not had to go to work on the original one.

I'll keep trying, it has to be something I am doing, or not doing.

I asked because there is a misplaced screw head on the v3 flange, which could explain your problem. But your v2 having no screw heads i wonder why you cannot code your lens as you like. Have you been using a coder of any sort?

No, no screws, just Scroogeness, trying a self made template. The one your picture shows will make the job a gazzillion times easier. Looks like I need to acquire one.

Elsewhere in this forum, there is a list of codings for various lenses. Kep searching and I'm sure you will find it.

 

I bought the coding kit from Pop Flash which contains a circular slide rule configuration to identify lenses, a template and two sharpies. You will find that the code is not necessarily the same for a given focal length. I coded five or six of my lenses in about ten minutes total for all of them and the inked codings still hold up after 2 years.:)

I asked because there is a misplaced screw head on the v3 flange, which could explain your problem. But your v2 having no screw heads i wonder why you cannot code your lens as you like. Have you been using a coder of any sort?

 

I'm sorry if this is common knowledge but this is an 18 page thread so let me ask....where does one get that cool coding device and what is the cost?

I've tried several times to code the Voigtlander 35/1.4 Nokton with Leica 35/1.4 code but seems that is not working.

I've tried with:

-permanent marker (I didn't find on my stores the Sharpie brand)

-white sticker and the markups

-black sticker directly on senzor that reads the codes from the body

but no succes. It won't set my frame on the 35mm marks. It does not appear in exif either.

 

Anyone tried to succesfuly code the Voigtlander 35/1.4 nokton?

I'm not Leica master, but I believe the function of the frame lines changing is a mechanical feature. So just the way the lens is made should automatically pull up the 35mm frame lines. The coding of the lens does not drive this function.

 

What tool are you using to mark the lens? The guy Bo in post 340 makes a great m template. I used the one he made and it worked great for me.

Never stuck anything on the sensor but normal coding of my CV 35/1.4 SC is quite easy with code 29 (011101) on my M8.2.

You might wish to try the same permanent marker as mine:

How did this go? I'm unable to get my m8 to read that code to on my voigtlander 35 1.4.

Did you ever get your 135mm recognised?

 

I have a 135mm Elmar and I had the code notches professionally milled by John Milich. Nevertheless my M9 reports "uncoded" not only to the 135 Elmarit code (001001) but to any other code that I have tried. This includes the 101000 Macro-Adaptor (which the M9 reports as 90mm f4). My only guess is that it is something to do with the frame lines.

 

Can you or anyone throw any light on this?

 

 

Even I am having trouble getting some lenses to work. Funny thing is the leica lenses seem the hardest to get to work. My 135mm Elmarit just will not work. It's tricky business with fat fingers and a coffee powered hand.

 

I am going to code my 15mm VC but I'm still not sure what code to use. Any one know what lens has the closest exit pupil length? The screw mount lenses are a challenge with that 1mm gap right where the sensor is.

...My only guess is that it is something to do with the frame lines...

I have not my 135/2.8 with me but it brings up the 90mm framelines if memory serves which is not the case for the 135/4.

I would try 110101 (135/3.4) but i don't know if it works at all.
