Anakchan, I assume I can share what I know of CE's deliveries, I am next in their queue.

They had one pre-sold before 09/09/09 which was delivered shortly after announcement, I overheard Ryan and the staff talking about this at the launch.

Two others pre-ordered cameras before I did (CE told me this), both wanting black, I wanted grey. I paid in full.

I assume one of those pre-orders was Vikas (from Singapore). The other received his camera a couple of weeks ago when the Australian shipment of 4 arrived.

I asked if I could change my order to black without losing my place in the order queue and they said yes so I can only assume that they'll call me when the next camera arrives :)

Daniel all of these dealer stories keep mutating!

An Adelaide dealer told a customer that they had already delivered 5 (of the 0 that they have received!)

Vikas here has told us he bought his from CE in Perth (and its now in Singapore)

Erl got the one that went to Melbourne. Another member here reported that he took delivery in Darwin! Those three were the entire first shipment. The second shipment of four were not sold to customers. Adeal has all four of them as their cameras to show dealers and loan to reviewers etc. I saw two of them.

Scroll up a few posts, this info is from Adeal themselves :)

Next 'up to 10' expected soon. All black. Adeal plan to share the 'up to ten', one per dealership amongst the much more than 10 customers whose dealers ordered on the first day. After that they hope that the supply will improve as Leica start to catch up.

Keep everything crossed.

Geoff,

The initial 7 that arrived were 3 for sale, 4 for demo's, a mix of grey and black.

Then 4 arrived, one came to perth. All black.

10 are en route. All black.

Ryan can correct me if that is wrong.

Daniel, I agree with you on 1 and 3!

Not to worry, the only thing that counts is that a tiny handful have arrived so far and we are all eagerly awaiting the next few and more after that :).

Indeed, I hope Leica can ramp up production lest speculation get out of hand.

I'm trying to not get my hopes up too high :)

hmmmm ,the australian dollar has started to slide back.... I wonder where the price will be when the cameras arrive?

I just heard directly from a large New York dealer that they are currently getting 1 Black m9 per week- and at that rate obviously their waiting list is growing- rather than shrinking.

they don't seem to know if the situation will change in the foreseeable future.

Makes you wonder- all those dealers- all over the world- clamoring for stock. There was a lot of talk all over about 'the end of october'- but that seems to be dying down.

Ah, well- patience is a virtue. And whilst the way cameras are distributed may not be fair as such- how fair is it to spend 8~10,000 dollars on a small camera in a world where millions don't even have clean drinking water let alone enough to eat? No very I should say.

I understand your concern about poorer people but it doesn't work that way. I know of one local (Melb) photographer waiting for an M9 and leaving for African in a few days, to ducument and assist the plight of orphans in that (and other) countries. The photographer has pre-sold an M8 to finance the M9 and now is left with no useable camera. My point is that the purchase price of the M9 was being applied to indirectly assist some of those poor people. They need well off people like most of us to apply our wealth, at least partly, towards their welfare. Not perfect equality of course, but goes someway to improving the imbalance. What other real world action can we take?

Well - it's the end of the week and the end of the month - anyone get one of those 10 m9's that Ryan was talking about that would be delivered this week. My Dealer as of a few minutes ago has seen nothing?

Nothing in WA, but I had a feeling we wouldn't get one from this batch. :o If any cameras have arrived perhaps they're still making their way to dealers, or the recipients are not forum members. Hopefully Geoff gets one!

Jacques, I'm charitable and give what I can to those less fortunate, I grew up in Africa and I know how bad it is. The problem is not what luxuries we buy for ourselves but that others are not able to have any luxuries. The redistribution of wealth isn't the real solution but that's a huge discussion for a different time. I do agree that we need to be humble and grateful for our positions in this world.

I don't wanna sound snobby but specifically about your photographer, it doesn't sound very professional if he doesn't have a backup.

AnakChan, I take your point, and agree. The actual point is, she is not a professional, she is a compassionate and talented amateur who does a fantastic job with orphans worldwide. I don't wish to elaborate more as it may cause her embarrassment, which is why I delberately avoided mentioning her gender earlier on. I have now done that in order to defend her fantastic efforts. Enough said I hope.

Thanks for the good vibes, Daniel! Oh you'll hear from me when my camera is delivered!

We are all on tenterhooks. I feel for Ryan at Adeal becuse he has done his best to provide an update and delivery estimate but can not control Solms and Aus Customs either. Bring them on for us all.

Anyhoo, shooting lots with my M8 so not really suffering. I keep thinking how nice it will be to have its new baby brother. At the same time my M8 was upgraded by Solms in June and my two best lenses tuned too. The focus precision is everyhing you could ask for and I am already thinking that the M9 will be even less forgiving with wide open fast glass. If you want to experience somethimg while you are waiting print BIG from the APO 75 Summicron ASPH on M8, on tripod. Scary sharp and I was shooting inside 1 metre and wide open. I know that the new camera will take some learning too. Let's see! Always more to learn.

Yea yea, the usual bullshit.

I seem to recall the founders of magnum with their heads together saying remember the days when you could send a man in with his camera (they used the word Leica) a lens and a roll of film and he would get 'the' image. These days its what do I get as a back up for my Leica because its as reliable as an alfra romeo. The whole thing has turned to

Gone are the days when Salgado praised his reliable fully mechanical. Now its movie star freebies and what billingham bag will keep the scratches off my investment in between shooting wide open. Load of

With all the talk of large shipments and deliveries ensuing stateside, I hope we get a few large deliveries down under, hopefully Ryan or someone can chime in with some useful information when shipment quantities and ETA's are known :)

I can't believe people have been selling their only camera to finance the M9!

Personally, I'm over the wait..back to the trusty M7 with Provia 100/400...now if only there were labs in Sydney which still process slide film :( ....thanks lab x in St Kilda for not giving up on film-users! :)

parasko, I am at a loss as to why you are at a loss about people selling their only camera to finance the M9. It's a bloody expensive camera (I know  ), but some people can only finance it that way. I am fortunately not one of them, but I understand their position.

I agree, the M7 is 'trusty', but no replacement for the M9, or any digicam. Different animals. Re processing transparency, if you are serious about it, consider getting a JOBO processor. It is unbelievably simple, and economic. The bonus is that once you work out your times correctly, it is MORE accurate than any lab you can find. No offence to Lab X. I agree, they are great, but you can do better. Consider it.

I've been loving my M6 lately, shooting a lot of Sensia 100 but will probably shoot more negative film since it scans better. I made a good profile for vuescan with my Minolta 5400 scanner, great cos I get 42Mpixel scans from it, beyond what any film I use can produce.

But I agree, I get more dynamic range, less grain and ease of manipulation from digital - useful for landscape.

I have read these messages with interest, having collected my new black M9 from my Adelaide dealer on 15 October. I was the first to place a firm order, and therefore received the first M9 delivered to them. The price I paid for it is my business! But so far it's worth it. I have sold some older film cameras (including Leicas) to help pay for it. So if you have ordered your M9 be patient. If you have not ordered it and are waiting for your dealer to have a demo model for you to handle be even more patient. I would expect all deliveries for the rest of 2009 will go straight to customers. Cheers, TOM:p

Tom, congratulations. Enjoy! I do believe I have seen a couple of frames from that camera already.

Also means I had it wrong on my only 3 delivered plus 4 demos for Aus so far.

I must have misunderstood Adeal. I'll shut up now :)

Congrats on Liz and Geoff getting cameras. While I missed out this round, I just wanted to give a huge thumbs up to Ryan from Adeal. You have to appreciate it when a company takes the time to respond to people individually as Ryan has done. While supply is still tragically small, having communication from the distributor here in Australia is fantastic.

Thanks Ryan - very much appreciated
