  1. Which one is better? 1, can SF58 mount directly on M240 hotshoe slot without adapter? 2, The compare functions of SF58 and SF40 TTL, AUTO, HSS and etc. ( in direct mount). Which better? Thanks very much. Need make a decision soon.
  2. Dear all, Flashgun related questions seem to be on top of this forum section right now, so let me add some of mine as well 1. I have a compact Leica SF20 flashgun from the Leica R days. Will it work on the Leica S and what would be possible limitations? I would consider it as a very practical and light-weight addition while traveling, and when you need a little fill-in flash in daylight conditions. Does someone have some experience here? 2. With the release of the SF64 flashgun, I was wondering if there are any practical differences between it and the older SF58. Simply put: would there be particular advantages that the SF64 has over the older version, for use with the Leica S? 3. Does it make sense at all to get the SF58 or SF64 flashgun if one has a Metz Mecablitz 54-MZ3 or 4 with a Leica SCA 3502 module? Are there (practical) limitations with the Metz flashgun that the Leica flashguns would not have? Many thanks for your views. Pascal
  3. Hi all, I have the SF58 but haven't yet tested it with the M240. I will be getting mine in about three weeks, but before then I wanted to ask about flash usage on the M. I plan to add this Q&A to that thread when I have some firm answers. Q1. Does the M support HSS with the SF58? If so, how does this work? Q2. Does the M support TTL flash with the SF58? If so, how does this work? Is the SCA3502 adapter still required? Cheers and thanks so much everyone. Paul
  4. I am new to radio controlled flash and wonder if PocketWizard© products (Plus II or other) can be used to fire an SF58 flash in the TTL-HSS mode from an S2? I note that a couple of Nikon cables can be used to connect an S2 to an SF58 because the Leica and Nikon pin assignments are said to be the same. Does this mean that PocketWizards made for Nikons will operate with the Leica S2 & SF58, replacing the cable, as it were? Thanks in advance for help and advice. Bill
  5. Hello, I have an M9 and a SF58 flash. I admit to being pretty thick at following technical instructions / manuals. I have looked at flash threads on this site and gleaned some information, but am still unable to join the dots. I'm looking for some BASIC advice and tips to get started... Do's and don'ts, which mode to use (TTL, Automatic, or Manual), how to set the camera and flash for that mode. I assume that TTL is the best mode for the novice to try... Could be wrong. ================ Like many others I am put off by the SF58's heft... It is somewhat of a beast. I have read Sean Reid's articles on flash in general and the SF58 in particular. I am intrigued by his suggestion to use the flash off camera and use the Nikon SC-28 coiled cable. Would that I could make the wrist strap that Sean created to dangle the flash. Also, I wonder if Sean supports the camera hand with the flash hand in order to avoid shudder.
  7. So I have this set up but only 2 coded lens so far. my lens is 18mm f/3.8 ASPH (Leica coded) and 35mm 1.4 ASPH (code with Sharpie but recognized by the camera; as far as I can tell, when I push the info button, the diagram showed up). my problem On the camera I set Lens detection ON + UV/IR, 1st curtain, lend dependent auto slow sync; on the SF-58, TTL, pointing forward, F4 (manually set). in all modes (TTL, A, M) I cannot change the MZoom 18 to AZoom. According to the manual, I should be able to do that by pushing the Set button till MZoom or AZoom show up and then change it.... How come I cannot do that? next general question: is there a sync cord that I can use to get this flash away from the body? I am sure this is answered many times but I have trouble finding it as a new coming. thanks for your help.
  8. About one month ago I sold my Canon 5D MK2 all lenses and flash accessories, today I’m a proud owner of a Leica M8 brand new and a second-hand M6, 28mm f/2 Summicron ASPH, 50mm f/2 Summicron. I’m not a pro but a serious amateur, with the occasional wedding to shoot. With this in mind, should I be buying the 24D or the SF 58 flash? I’m not a big fan of flash and probably will us it on rare occasion, but I need one! Want some know-how feedback on this one? Thanks Bernard
