  1. Using a template I downloaded and printed, I have successfully coded my 35mm f2 Summicron ASPH. I used the template to locate the dot placement and did a trial run with a Sharpie marker first. It took a few tries and ultimately worked with a blacker colored marker (Sharpies are a weird bluish black color). I then used a 0.5mm dental ball bur in a micromotor handpiece (similar to a Dremel by 10x the price). A larger bur would have been fine but that's what was in the handpiece and I'm comfortable with that size so I used it. After excavating the metal I filled it with Rust Oleum flat black paint and the camera recognizes is perfectly. The hardest part of the entire job was using a scalpel to make a precision template. And as careful as I was, it still has more play than I would like.
  2. I have bought a new lens (21mm Elmar-M f/2.8) that I would like to 6-bit code. What is the best way to do this? I think there are ways to do it yourself? And if I do not want to do it myself who can do this type of things? I live in Gothenburg, Sweden.
  3. Ciao everybody here, I'm new to this forum and quite new to the Leica world too. I've searched through the posts, but still no answer to my question, so I post it here, hoping in your experience and kindness. I went to Germany last june and in a shop in Koln I found, to my surprise, a new M9 body in grey: I simply didn't resist and bought the camera, along with a Summicron-M 1:2/50mm lens. Now this lens is uncoded and I don't understand why. Is it normal? Was it built before 2006? And if this is the case, why the shop sold me such an old lens? The serial number is 3915155 and the "Verk.Nr." (type of lens?) is 11624. I understand it's the last type built, type IV, am I wrong? I'm impressed by the results and I'm living a dream dreamed for so long with this camera, but I want everything ok, specially if I plan to buy other lenses, so maybe I will have the lens coded by the italian importer. Thanks you all for what I learn reading and looking your photos, ...and for your answers! Ciao Angelo
  4. So I have this set up but only 2 coded lens so far. my lens is 18mm f/3.8 ASPH (Leica coded) and 35mm 1.4 ASPH (code with Sharpie but recognized by the camera; as far as I can tell, when I push the info button, the diagram showed up). my problem On the camera I set Lens detection ON + UV/IR, 1st curtain, lend dependent auto slow sync; on the SF-58, TTL, pointing forward, F4 (manually set). in all modes (TTL, A, M) I cannot change the MZoom 18 to AZoom. According to the manual, I should be able to do that by pushing the Set button till MZoom or AZoom show up and then change it.... How come I cannot do that? next general question: is there a sync cord that I can use to get this flash away from the body? I am sure this is answered many times but I have trouble finding it as a new coming. thanks for your help.
