We have threads for film and threads for digital – so what about a thread for digital that simulates film? You are welcome to share your own pictures, and please let us know which profile or preset you used. Other film-like profiles and presets are also welcome, as well as discussions around this topic.

Hey all, Wondering how you approach maintaining the fantastic level of shadow detail we get with the monorchrom sensors when moving into an 8-bit format such as JPG, as well as standardizing on sRGB vs something like Adobe RGB 1998? When exporting to JPG (100% quality) with sRGB, shadow detail is definitely lost and gets muddy, while Adobe RGB maintains much more detail. I've also seen posterization or blockiness if black levels go to near 0, where the conversion from the working raw/dng space (in my case in Capture One) to sRGB loses the gentle tonal transition and instead it seems as if anything close to 0 just gets mapped to 0.. As a result, I've started manually protecting the white and blacks by using the curve adjustment and just changing my white point to ~252 and black to 3.. but even that small shift sometimes reduces the nice dynamic range we get in raw editing. I'm curious if you all have run into this at all, and what you all might be doing to prevent the sRGB conversion from creating a muddy effect on shadow detail? Attaching an example (post below as well due to file size limitations).. If you right click on each image, and open the images up in a new tab and then zoom into 100% at the top-left or the bottom-left corner of the image, then flip back between them both, you should see where some of the tone mapping difference occurs. This is Adobe RBG (profile embedded) JPG 100%, 100% crop.

What different User Profiles do you use on you Leica M10? So far I only use two: Norm: For general conditions (see attachment) Mono: For monochrome shooting For Mono I've made the following changes to the 'Norm' settings: File format: DNG + JPG Max ISO: 50,000 (I want that grain sometimes) JPG settings: Contrast, sharpness, Saturation: High Monochrome: On I've attached a PDF of the settings I use. It was created by the legendary John Greengo. I think it's only fair to link to his course 'Leica M10 Fast Start' which I can highly recommend. For the record, I have no connection to this company nor do I get a referral payment. Leica M10 settings copy.pdf

I've set Adobe Camera Raw to apply lens profiles automatically when I load images from my Leica lenses, But I don't remember how I did it. Now I have a non-Leica camera and lens as well and would like ACR to automatically apply Adobe's lens profiles when I load those images. Can someone please remind me how to set ACR to do that? (And maybe tell me how to do the same in Lightroom, since I may soon be switching over to use that program?) Many thanks in advance!

I'm having a terrible time printings some portraits for a gallery show. I'm using Ilford Galerie Prestige Gold Fibre Silk paper, 13x19, and printing with an Epson 1430 Artisan printer. I'm printing through LightRoom, using the Ilford profile for that paper. I've turned off color correction for the printer itself and am using the color settings in LR. I'm using Relative Intent. Here is an example of my digital file: http://www.pbase.com/tinamanley/image/166471709/large Here is an iPhone photo of the actual print: http://www.pbase.com/tinamanley/image/167279204 See the greenish shadow on her jaw? All of my portraits are printing with these green shadows somewhere. I've tried adjusting the color balance of the whole photo which makes it too pink and I've tried adjusting the toning of just the shadows which doesn't seem to help. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. This is driving me crazy!! TIA Tina

My download of the new FW 2.0 went smoothness and everything seems to be in place. However, having saved my profiles from the previous FW to an SD card, I would like to "reimport" them to the new 2.0 FW version, but HOW? Any suggestion would be most welcome

Over the last months, I got to know my TL2 quite well. And overall, I am very pleased with the results that I get. Sometimes the TL2 firmware is not well behaved, but I found a workaround that I can live with for most issues. Now, because I use lots of M and R lenses on both my SL and TL2, I finally caved in and bought a M-L adapter. Until now, I was using a mechanical adapter, but both SL and TL2 will not record any lens profile to EXIF, even if you choose one. On my SL, I can see all profiles available for M and R lenses. On my TL2 (firmware 1.5) I never saw such a list. Thinking it must be because I do not have the native M-L adapter, and knowing the info will not be saved anyway, I did not bother. Now, WITH the native Leica M-L adapter, the TL2 still not shows any list for the M lens profiles ?! Any coded M lens is registered correctly, but I would like to chose the profile manually like I can on my SL for my uncoded lenses. Am I missing something here?

Hey, I am struggling with the Userprofiles. I am assuming that I saved a change to a specified User Profile , but a change from a short to a long exposure does not save into the user profile . i am really getting mad with the structure or mechanic of this profile set up. i saved a Profil with my normal settings called it M01 then I created a new profile for long exposure called it : longex but if I change the time into 6 minutes and I flip to the M01 , I get 6 minutes over there in the normal profile. what am I doing wrong? to me this is not logical. i change settings, I get asked if I want to overwrite them and then the changes appear in the other profile too …. any advice ? kind regards

CornerFix is really helpfull to correct M9 DNGs; using the included CV12 files was really convincing. Did anyone find a collection with different profiles for the M9 (my trials doing it by myself have been less than outstanding, i am lazy too...) ? I was also less than successfull finding profiles in this forum (only ZM 2,8/35) I am looking especially for for profiles for the M9, Zeiss ZM 4/18 and the Leica 2,8/28 ASPH... :Axel

I'm progressively switching over from Capture One to LR3, and gradually getting to grips with the differences. I'm using a Mac with the latest OS. In C1 I have a collection of .icm profiles for converting raw files to BW. These have been useful, and I'd like to use them in LR. I assume that there should be a folder from which they can be accessed by LR, but it's not obvious where this might be located - I've looked in all the obvious places. Neither can I find a way of accessing .icm profiles from LR, so maybe it's not possible, which would be a strange omission. Any advice? David
