  1. Hi I just got a flash for my M6 classic (the sf24d). I got it from a friend, because he thought it was broken. I sent it to Leica and got a new one in return! But: I dont know how to use it with tri-x in semi-sunny daylight (sunny-16 dont work with 1/50th shutterspeed and f/8:)). Do any of you have a few tips to a novice in flash photography? Thank you. Regards Øystein
  2. I recently bought a NOS TL. I'm still figuring out the best way to use it - but nevertheless, so far, it's hard not to like the camera. One issue that I have with the TL does not seem to be normal however: when I remove the battery for charging, and the camera is without battery for eg one night, I loose all settings: date and time, and the settings in which I was working before I removed the battery. Saved profiles are still there. Just a problem with the internal battery, or… normal for a TL? Marc
  3. What different User Profiles do you use on you Leica M10? So far I only use two: Norm: For general conditions (see attachment) Mono: For monochrome shooting For Mono I've made the following changes to the 'Norm' settings: File format: DNG + JPG Max ISO: 50,000 (I want that grain sometimes) JPG settings: Contrast, sharpness, Saturation: High Monochrome: On I've attached a PDF of the settings I use. It was created by the legendary John Greengo. I think it's only fair to link to his course 'Leica M10 Fast Start' which I can highly recommend. For the record, I have no connection to this company nor do I get a referral payment. Leica M10 settings copy.pdf
  4. Always looking for the best way to have my Q pre-set, and then mess around from there. Rereading an early review of the Q, I found this discussion: https://www.dpreview.com/reviews/leica-q-typ116/12 which says: So, here's how most of us around the office chose to use the Q. Keep it in single-point Single-AF, and move your focus point around with the four-way controller (focus-and-recompose if you must). Utilize Auto ISO with a chosen minimum shutter speed, and shoot in aperture priority. Unless you use the shutter speed dial to override your Auto ISO shutter speed setting, use the rear control dial for exposure compensation. If you do override your minimum shutter speed, make sure your Fn button is assigned to exposure compensation, as that rear dial will change its function to controlling shutter speed in 1/3 stops. personally, I like the FN set for white balance, but over the months of use I've been impressed about how the Q nails it with AWB and can be convinced to try what this reviewer recommends, since I do more often override shutter speed and then have to go into the menu for exposure compensation, which is a real pain. Or maybe set the thumbwheel to exposure compensation rather than auto? thanks for reading.
  5. I've written an article with the best practice for setting up the Leica M10 and Leica M10-P as a quick starting point for new users. It's based on the new possibilities with the last two Firmware updates. Leica M10 Fast Start: Basic Menu Setup and other useful tips
  6. I am brand new to this forum as I just bought my V-LUX 4 camera -- which looks like it will do almost exactly what I am looking for it to do -- I have been using a Canon G7 and most recently S100 -- I do high performance driving education (HPDE) and like to take photos at the track (when I am not driving). Here is my question -- I love to take HDR pictures and the camera has the setting -- but is there a way to change the first and last photo's to -2 and +2 -- it looks like it can be done based on the screen display but I can not figure out where to set this. Help appreciated. Jim
  7. More of a lurker than poster, here it goes.. Now that increasingly, X1's seem to be falling into eager hands (though a trickle still), wondered what different settings you all are using to get maximum results for your type of shooting... In other words, what settings, and more importantly, why is suits - your - style... (Just received mine, and am going to dive into my own experiments as soon as time opens up...) MB
  8. Hello, I just got my Dlux 4 the other day. One of the main reasons why I bought it was the fantastic reviews of users shooting in low light conditions. Granted im still toying around with this beast but the initial shots I've taken have all been a bit soft. I've played around with different settings but I haven't found one that gets me a nice crisp shot indoors with min lighting. What's the recommended settings that I should use to get sharp shots in low light settings (without a tripod)?
  9. Hi, I'm experiencing a problem with shooting DNG+JPG fine in the M9. I have done so successfully previously but the last couple of shots I did, the camera didn't save 2 files - one DNG and the second JPG. Instead it saved 2 JPGs. Has anyone experienced this problem? any suggestions? I thought I would reset my settings but that doesn't mean it won't happen again - if at all it will help. Thanks -Danny
  10. OK, I give up. The SL2 camera does NOT want me to set date and time. I can change their format, but I can't set actual values from the camera. I've switched off the sync via Smartphone option. I can select individual year, month, and date. But no control I try (no dials or buttons) does anything to change their values. Any ideas what is going on here??
  12. The NFC option does not appear in the network configuration. Attached screenshot of the manual, where it appears, and those of the menu of my setup, where not. Who knows what might be due?
  13. Hi all- So, I'm confused about why the FN button, nor the top button, never keep the settings I set them to. I have zero need for a timer so I want the FN button to be User Profiles. Fine, I hold the button, select that option, and from then on out it works great. Now I turn the camera off and back on and it's reverted to Timer. Same goes for the button on the top of the camera. This happens 100% of the time, and it kinda cheeses me off that I have to remember to set it every time I turn the camera on. I just updated to the 5.0 firmware and this is still happening. Am I doing something wrong, or is the setting not supposed to be saved between power cycles? Thanks for any help, this is the only thing that's driving me mad when using the camera. Ron (FWIW, it's a standard Q2)
  14. A post by another forum member got me thinking, so I thought I'd do a quick test of how the various jpeg settings affect the final output, and whether they could really be compared to film simulations, recipes or similar offered by other camera platforms. I couldn't seem to find a way to jam all the test content into a single post, so threw a page up on my website. I've never done this type of test before so there could be some things I've overlooked. Hope it comes across as intended as well as useful in some ways.... https://phil1066photography.com/photography-projects/leica-q2-jpeg-testing/
  15. These are my presets I try to memorize in order to achieve good sense of distance and to can shoot with zone focusing with my 50mm M6. What are your zone focusing experience with 50mm film Leica ?
  16. Hello everyone, Since Adobe or Leica haven't able to provide with profiles inside Lightroom for Leica T as other models, has anyone been successful to reproduce the black and white high contrast on the DNG files? I have try with the black and white conversion in Lightroom, software such as Silver Efex Pro 2, Alien Skin, Topaz, etc., but the feeling/look is not the same from the jpg file. Thank you, Francisco
  17. Just wondering who of us have been using these settings. I ask, as I had started to use early on and it seems the settings would change on power down, or battery change. Any comments as how you are using and if you had issues as well?
  18. Since many are just now getting their cameras, and some have been very good in offering suggestions in the use of the camera it is helpful to offer a place to share user experiences. How about those that have ideas how best to set up and use the Q, post their tips here. I am happy to start. Using the Function button has been helpful in making quick changes to settings. Hold down for a couple of seconds and you can quickly pick up a new setting for the FN button. I use the meter function as my standard FN function but sometimes will use to set for Jpeg images which I have configured to B/W. Cheers
  19. Hi, I just have a M3 camera here to try out. But I have not really any idea how to use a camera without light meter. So the question is on one hand - how to use a M3 without a ight meter to get the right exposure (ISO Aperture and Speed) - and on the other hand this is not sticky to a M3 but how to use any camera without light meter. Thanks for any help which is highly appreciated. Any links to online help also welcome - I already asked google but did not do a great job. Regards AHAB
  20. What's your favorite settings for FN button (arrow down). In the custom mode do you use the same association for FN? My FN settings is quick access to AF MODE. I like to experience a different focusing styles (faster, tracking, multiple etc.) and a quick acces is important to me. To be easier for respondents I will recap the available option: - REVIEW (default) - FILM MODE - SENSITIVITY - WHITE BALANCE - METERING MODE - AF MODE - I EXPOSURE
