I don’t see any place to share pictures of Barnack cameras, so thought of creating this thread. All Barnack users, please share your Barnack love here! Here’s my Leica III from 1936 converted in-factor to a IIIf by Leica in the 50s, with an Elmar 35mm f3.5 & FOOKH hood. The viewfinder is Voigtlander’s 28/35. Love this combo! Below is a pic of the camera and a pic taken with this kit!

You can find it under Project B23 "Barnack Reimagined" from Midnight Camera Repair. Albert Tong from Hong Kong has been meticulously designing, 3D printing and testing polymer bodies for Barnack mechanisms. His goal is better ergonomics and about 95 grams of weight reduction. It mounts over a Leica iiif but can fit a couple of other Barnacks as well. You can opt for no slow shutter speed dial, film reminder bracket on the back, quick load spool, taller shutter button, clip-on 28mm finder and everything is apparently reversible. The lens mounts to the original mount on the mechanism body. It also comes with assembly instructions and you need a donor camera for the mechanism "skeleton". Intrigued? YOu can see Albert's quest on his instagram @midnightcamerarepair NO AFFILIATION, have not even seen one in person, a friend of a friend bought one and posted on his story. Does the project make sense? Does it arouse your interest? Comment below.

Some months back I supported a Kickstarter effort to produce a tiny light meter for old cameras, to be made in Canada. After some delays due to COVID, the first production is finished, and I received my unit today. It is easily the smallest and lightest light meter I've seen. The body is 3-D printed, but seems good quality. The control buttons are also tiny, but easier to use than I expected. Nice clear LCD display on the back. Works in either Aperture or Shutter priority. It calibrated easily to my Luna-Lux SBC and seems very accurate. Here it is on a IIIf, where it works fine, although is very close to the shutter speed dial. On a model III or II it is too close, so the dial can't be lifted to set the speed. Otherwise it is worth a look. The designer called the company REVENI LABS.

Hi everyone, I’ve recently acquired a Leica III and I’ve been enjoying this camera so much that I have not touched my M3 at all for over a month now. I was wondering if there are any Barnack Leica users here who could recommend me their favorite lenses for the system. I currently own: - Nickel Elmar 5cm f3.5 (elmar, uncoated from 1933) - Chrome Elmar 5cm f3.5 Red scale (coated from 1954) I’m thinking of getting rid of one of the Elmars (still have to decide which one) and get another 50mm that is compact / light but a bit brighter and a 28/35mm as well.

Hopefully nobody minds me asking an ignorant question... I have an LTM Elmar 50mm f/2.8 and, reading the Ken Rockwell review, he recommends a Yellow #022 39mm filter for b&w photography with that lens. However, what I am really unsure about is how the filters fit to my lens and, if I am not to buy an authentic Leitz/Leica filter, what I need to look for on eBay, etc. I don't see any thread inside the collapsible lens so I am guessing that the filters either fit over the lens like the lens cap or somehow grip onto the inside of the lens. Grateful for any insights plus suggestions re where I can get them!
