stunsworth Posted May 13, 2007 Share #1 Posted May 13, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) One from this afternoon in Blackpool. This is the famous (well in this neck of the woods anyway) Tower Ballroom. £13 to go in the building and up the tower, I must have more money than sense :-) This is one of those shots where I knew what I was after before I entered the building. Far more pre-planed that the usual accidents that I stumble across. More or less full frame, just a little cropped off the left. M8, 24mm ASPH Elmarit Welcome, dear visitor! andybarton Posted May 13, 2007 Share #3 Posted May 13, 2007 Worked out very well, indeed, I'd say. I bet the view from the top was "thrilling" this afternoon
peterv Posted May 13, 2007 Share #4 Posted May 13, 2007 Steve, very nice! Beautiful atmosphere in black and white Did you ask for permission before paying the £13 ? Peter
Michael-IIIf Posted May 13, 2007 Share #5 Posted May 13, 2007 Steve, very nice! Beautiful atmosphere in black and white Did you ask for permission before paying the £13 ? Peter Nice shot Steve. I haven't been up that tower since 1967 - it looks like it hasn't changed that much. I guess some of your dancers where probably there then too. biglouis Posted May 13, 2007 Share #8 Posted May 13, 2007 Very lovely shot. Full of old world atmosphere. I'd say you used the location, the camera and your creativity very well indeed. LouisB

topoxforddoc Posted May 14, 2007 Share #12 Posted May 14, 2007 Steve, lovely movement - not very many people on the dance floor - great for your shot. Was it very empty? Best wishes, Charlie
David Wogan Posted May 14, 2007 Share #13 Posted May 14, 2007 I like this a lot. I like to attempt this type of shot as often as I can. Very often it just involves standing in a place where there's some action and shooting. This is more planned that that and looks all the better for it. stunsworth Posted May 14, 2007 Author Share #14 Posted May 14, 2007 Thanks everyone. The ballroom was pretty empty - but this was taken at around noon so I imagine it gets busier later in the afternoon. I bought a drink and sat by the edge of the dancefloor for 5 or 10 minutes. I have to admit I went wanting to try and get a shot with a couple dominating the foreground, so I'm happy with this. I'd have been happier if there had been more people on the dancefloor, but at £13 a person I wasn't going to drag people out off the street :-)
billh Posted May 14, 2007 Share #15 Posted May 14, 2007 Very nice! It looks like you have very steady hands.
rcocozza Posted May 14, 2007 Share #16 Posted May 14, 2007 A very nice shot that goes one step beyond. If I could make one suggestion should you ever decide to cough up another 13 GBP.... allow for couple 3 in the rear to not be partially covered by the couple in the center. best rgds, Bob
stunsworth Posted May 14, 2007 Author Share #17 Posted May 14, 2007 Bob, well spotted. That is the thing that spoiled this a little for me. I'd like to be able to see the organist on the stage as well, but this is the best I have.
robert_parker Posted May 14, 2007 Share #18 Posted May 14, 2007 Steve Nice shot - I'm not sure I'd have been brave enough to crop the heads of the couple closest to me but the effect is great Ps. Is that the little guy from the Canal St Martin in the background ??
stunsworth Posted May 15, 2007 Author Share #19 Posted May 15, 2007 Robert, that's all there is on the frame, so I didn't have the option of including any more <grin> Do you think I'm being followed?
