Advertisement Posted October 27, 2012 Posted October 27, 2012 Hi kivis, Take a look here Super Angulon 21/3.4. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
tobey bilek Posted October 29, 2012 Share #2 Posted October 29, 2012 It may be classic, have nice contrast, be sharp in the middle, but vignetting is by the worst I have ever seen. If I wanted even illumination, I had to stop to 11 or 16, can`t remember which. Those pics are still on my wall. I owned this one for three months at most when the 21 2.8 came out. I traded off right away. Straight lines go a bit wonky, but I can use it at 4 to 11 for landscapes. Bought the 28 2.8 at the same time and both have been fitted to the M9P and they make stunning photos.
pgk Posted October 29, 2012 Share #3 Posted October 29, 2012 It IS a classic lens. Despite its shortcomings it still produces excellent images and although I also have its replacement (21/3.4 SE) I am still keeping the SA.....
!Nomad64 Posted October 31, 2012 Share #4 Posted October 31, 2012 How does it go with the M9? Any magenta casting? Banding? Anything? Thanks in advance, Bruno

Roland L. Posted October 31, 2012 Share #7 Posted October 31, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) How does it go with the M9? Any magenta casting? Banding? Anything? Everything, but it is good in BW. Roland
luigi bertolotti Posted October 31, 2012 Share #8 Posted October 31, 2012 It may be classic, have nice contrast, be sharp in the middle, but vignetting is by the worst I have ever seen.... I see you have not its predecessor... The SA 21 f4 vignettes A LOT even on M8, on which the 3,4 (closed to 5,6 around) stands up decently, apart the known issue of wrong metering. ... and, yes, is always a fine item... pgk Posted November 1, 2012 Share #9 Posted November 1, 2012 How does it go with the M9? Any magenta casting? Banding? Anything? Thanks in advance, Bruno It vignettes badly, has soft cornrs and suffers from awful magenta casts which I cannot fully correct for even using Cornerfix. BUT for B&W it is a superb, centrally extremely sharp, characterful lens......
jankap Posted November 1, 2012 Share #10 Posted November 1, 2012 Inaccurate metering? What can the reason be for this? Jan
!Nomad64 Posted November 1, 2012 Share #11 Posted November 1, 2012 The rear lenses deeply protruding into the camera body and partially obscuring the metering cell. In order to properly expose with this lens mounted one has to rely on the guessposimeter which is based on the "Sunny 16" algorithm Cheers, Bruno
luigi bertolotti Posted November 2, 2012 Share #12 Posted November 2, 2012 Inaccurate metering? What can the reason be for this? Jan See Nomad64 answer... I add that Leica duly specifies this issue in the M8/M9 manuals.
gyoung Posted November 2, 2012 Share #13 Posted November 2, 2012 Accurate (!) metering with a 21 is always an art anyway, even with my 21/2.8 asph on my M6ttl I prefer to meter with the 35 etc before putting the 21 on. Gerry
Guest JMF Posted November 2, 2012 Share #14 Posted November 2, 2012 (edited) I use the -3 stops setting and both 3.4 and 4 SA lenses can be metered then ! Cornerfix works well on the M8 for these 2 lenses. Edited November 2, 2012 by jmanivelle

Guest JMF Posted November 3, 2012 Share #16 Posted November 3, 2012 (edited) @jmanivelle please tell me what is -3stop settings? Dialing an Exposure compensation of 2.5 to 3 stops corrects the misreading the M8 photometer gives with these Super Angulon lenses . My 2.5 centavos, JM Edited November 3, 2012 by jmanivelle

Guest JMF Posted November 3, 2012 Share #18 Posted November 3, 2012 Sometimes-depending on the light distribution on the subject. Sure, it's a good base to interpret and trust your eyes!
jankap Posted November 4, 2012 Share #19 Posted November 4, 2012 See Nomad64 answer... I add that Leica duly specifies this issue in the M8/M9 manuals. Thanks for your explanation (and to nomad64 too). The new M with live view will solve this problem. Analog technic vanishes (slowly). Digital technic is cheaper to build and delivers better results.
