leicamr Posted May 7, 2009 Share #1 Posted May 7, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) 8 May 1979 is the day that I bought my very first Leica, an R3. It is this camera that started my serious love and passion for photography and Leica. It had a very active life in its early years and has taken some of my favourite images. It has not been used for some years now, but it is in lovely condition and still works perfectly. I love this camera and would never part with it. I have taken some birthday pictures of it. See if you can spot the image taken with an M8. Here's to the next 30 years. Mark Welcome, dear visitor! NZDavid Posted May 7, 2009 Share #4 Posted May 7, 2009 Hmm, third one? More magentary? Very nice condition camera. Thirty years ago I was still using my Olympus 35RC.
Chiefey Posted May 8, 2009 Share #5 Posted May 8, 2009 Thats the same year I traded my M5 for an R3 MOT and a 100mm F4 lens. The lens was dropped, and recently under went repairs and still works great.
digger1914 Posted May 8, 2009 Share #6 Posted May 8, 2009 Very nice! 30 years ago I had just got a Ricoh KR10, and it still works perfectly too!
leicamr Posted May 8, 2009 Author Share #7 Posted May 8, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Yes, the magenta Summicron. I wonder how rare it is! The colour accurate images were taken with my trusty DMR. Thanks for responses all. regards Mark
JBA Posted May 8, 2009 Share #8 Posted May 8, 2009 Sweet camera. You've clearly taken excellent care of it, and anything you take care of you deserve to own. That was one of the Holy Grail cameras of my teens and somewhere I still have the sales brochure for it. Never got one, though -- at least not yet! 30 years ago, I got my first Nikon F2 and was given a 200 Nikkor-Q. The original camera was stolen, but I still have the second one I bought a few years later and still have that 200. I recently digitized an uploaded the first Kodachromes I shot with that camera-lens combination.

wildlightphoto Posted May 8, 2009 Share #10 Posted May 8, 2009 It was also 30 years ago when I bought my first Leica, a Leicaflex SL with 400mm f/6.8 Telyt.
garyp Posted May 8, 2009 Share #11 Posted May 8, 2009 Way to go Mark, the R3 is [still] a nice camera. I had one for a while and really liked it.
RockyIII Posted May 8, 2009 Share #12 Posted May 8, 2009 Very nice camera, and from the photos apparently you have taken excellent care of it. Rocky
hodimeyer Posted May 8, 2009 Share #13 Posted May 8, 2009 30 years ago I owned the japanese pendant = Minolta MD7. I sold it 5 years ago against my M6TTl because of the lack of money. Today I sorry about that :-( Horst Dieter
lct Posted May 8, 2009 Share #14 Posted May 8, 2009 M4-2 from 1978. My SLR was a Canon FTb or AE1. Could not afford a Leicaflex then.
Overgaard Posted May 8, 2009 Share #15 Posted May 8, 2009 Very nice R3. 30 years ago I got my first Nikon EM with motordrive and 50/1.8 in confirmation gift. Wow! Did see Leica ads then and dreamed of it. It's strange, but not until 2001 did I get a Minilux, and then a few more Leica cameras ;-) To remedy the slow start three of my preferred film cameras are from 1974 (M4 and the two Leicaflex SL)
amoebahydra Posted May 9, 2009 Share #16 Posted May 9, 2009 Leica R3 is my first Leica camera and was also bought 30 years ago. At that time I had to sell my Nikon F2A and a few Nikkor lenses to fund a R3 body, Summicron-R 1:2/50 and Summicron-R 1:2/90. In later years I collected 4 Leica R3 bodies, i.e. one Safari, two black chromes, and one R3mot. I still consider R3 as the most well-balanced R bodies and use them most often for film shooting.
