Hi All,

In Montpellier, south of France, the Leica dealer has a grey one for demo and told me the first shipping would arrive at the end of the month.

He doesn't know how many he will receive but told me that he should be in a good place (amongst other french Leica dealers).

There is already a list of six or seven ordered and they expect to sell 20 this coming year.

(Montpellier is a small town 400 000 habitants)

I am first on the list for a black one.

Days are long...

All the best,

Jean-Luc

It is the distributors as well. My (major UK) dealer told me they had received nothing yet, whilst other smaller dealers were able to sell off the shelf last week.

Can also be that a larger dealership is on credit hold, so when his allotment comes up it can't be released and goes to smaller accounts.

David Farkas is saying, at getdpi.com, that the US gets 20 (two-zero) M9s this week. Since he's a dealer, and part of the group that got the Solms preview, I'd guess he has good sources.

North America is about 20% of Leica's market these days (down from 25% 4-5 years ago). I think production is supposed to ramp up to 1000 per week, so about 200 per week for NAFTA once things stabilize. Maybe even beginning next week.

I'd guess orders already placed as of today will be filled by the end of Nov. if one isn't picky about color.

Collectibles "lists" them, as do many reputable store sites - one of each color, since those are the options and each has a different catalog number.

Can they deliver them this week? Can they deliver both colors this week? Can they deliver more than one body (color by the luck of the draw) in the next 10 days?

I called for clarification, and the very open and helpful person I talked to said they have preorders already sold, and can take internet orders, but actual delivery on those orders will be - when the cameras arrive from Leica US.

But thanks for the link - I want to browse their used lens list now, and they sounded like someone I'd want to do business with.

Bill seems a really nice helpful guy. I am waiting delivery of a secondhand current version 50 Summicron from him in anticipation of my ordered M9 arriving at some vague time in the indefinite future. Price was very reasonable.

I heard the initial shipment to the US will be pretty small.

I spoke with a Leica dealer who said he is expecting 1-2 (that's one to two!) by the end of September, and maybe 5-10 more through October. Said dealer also mentioned that he already has 'around 60' preorders. Mercy on that 60th person.

Several US dealers were told to expect a shipment (of unknown quantities) "sometime next week". This was told to them on 9/9. So far I haven't seen or heard of any news here in the US about this shipment. Has anyone? Seems like it wouldve cleared customs by now, no? Just wondering if anyones heard about this shipment yet. Would be interesting to see how right or wrong all these rumors have been. ;)

Just talked to Willoughby's - they called me. They have a black M9 for sale right now BUT it only comes in a "package". Oh darn. Billingham bag, big sd card, and a 35 Summilux - $12000.

Sounds very dodgy to me. I guess they are taking advantage of the demand for the M9 by hiking the price (bag, card and 35 Summilux are not $5k worth of kit). No better really than the many bait and switch merchants in Brooklyn.

My gosh 1000 per week.....that is 50,000 per year isn't it?

Stefan said that "M's" sell 10-12K per year normally and the M8 did much more in year one (I understand it was 20,000).

If they did sell 50,000 in the next 12 months that would be superb and allow significant cost reductions, improvements to Leica financials etc. Does anyone know if 1000 per week is correct. ?
