Who would like an interchangeable-lense X2?

...nothing stops Leica from calling such an X2 a "Digital CL". And who cares, as long as it's made soon! My money is waiting and ready :D

Well as you like but as i suggested above, the X1 is a fixed lens autofocus camera, so the X2 will be a fixed lens autofocus camera as well IMHO. With a little zoom lens i guess. As previous Leicas of this class like Mini and Mini Zoom, Minilux and Minilux Zoom, CM and CM Zoom and so on. A small camera with interchangeable lenses would have nothing to do with that. It would be a completely new beast as the CL was 30 years ago. Just my 2 cents.

the whole point is, that mFT (since at this point in time no other real competition exists) can get the jump on it b/se its limited to the F2.8 lens, if mFT were likewise oriented around F2.8 (or the equivalent which is F2.2) it would be screwed, but its already offering F1.7, it gets more room to avoid higher ISO where its weaker.

As it is, a 20/1.7 equipped mFT recovers 1.5 stops, a full 2/3rds stop over its e/v disadvantage. Hopefully take 2 of the X1 has the ability to use faster glass, where it would make a very desirable low light shooter.

All the X1 needs, is a somewhat faster performance overall -including AF lag-

Then, if they fix that, maybe a faster lens, and a kit to make it a pseudo telephoto. That's all... the camera's size and buttons is just perfect... just the speed

Then again, maybe this is exaggerated when you compare it with a GF1, so we must wait until it finally shows in retail

What surprise me so much is seeing people, in this thread, discussing what is convenient for Leica more that what they are interested in . But more than this that seems to be the possible benefit for Leica more important of their photographer needings !

What lloks to me more natural that photographers discuss of what they need and Leica make is own work: to fulfill those requests maintaining a good economical balance. Not reverse the parties concerned.

M and X are different one is manual the other is fully automatic: two different customer.

If in competition x1 takes the market of M this mean that people wish something different.

If Leica will not fulfill this someone else will do. Is not keeping the M in Indian reservation that we can protect its survive. M resisted to SLR era evolving continuosly and will do it again.

aperture control on the lens and ISO dial on top

An ISO dial would have been a good addition in my opinion too.

An aperture dial to control the depth of field.

A shuttertime dial to control the stopping of movement.

An ISO dial to control the amount of light.

This would have given a clearer handling.

Of course all should offer an automatic position.

A faster lens would be interesting for the depth of field only, in my opinion. The sensor seems to be already very good for available light situations.

Not sure if I understand you correctly, but aperture and shutter dials are already there, and there is already a dedicated ISO button.

Not sure you can fit many more dials in that compact body, without clogging it completely.

Hello everybody

First excuse my poor english...

I'm now with EOS 5D with "L" lens.

I was looking for a true camera, which could be everytime in my pocket.

I've found it : it's Leica X1. (but i've not steal baught it, it's a little expensive..).

But i Think somewhere that i will buy it like a person who will buy a beautiful watch (like a Rollex :)

What do you think about that ?

Because I've seen too the GF1 with its 20 mm...

Thank you for yours answers...

Bye

Thierry

Superbes photos Thierry. Si vous aimez le flou optique le format 4/3 n'est peut-être pas le plus adapté pour vous. If you like optical blur, 4/3 is perhaps not the best format for you. Otherwise the G1 in indeed a very good camera with which one can do many more things that with a fixed lens camera like the X1.

the screw thread is for attaching the camera to a jig during repair maybe? i'd have preferred a 28 f2.8 or a 21 f2.8 on the x1. creating that magical technical marvel of just one extra stop to f2 would have doubled the size of the lens...no thanks! perhaps sticking to fixed focals will happen on the x2 and x3 accordingly, interchangable can be such a bother sometimes. anyway, everyone can have something they like but nothing they agree on so perfect!

hello

thank you LCT.

I really want the smaller camera.

I think the G1 is to big.

I think I'm going to buy the X1...

But, because there is a "but".

I don't really like the telescopic lens. it is confering it fragility, dust entry.

The 20 mm's solution (pancake) on the GF1 is good for cluttering up.

But I really love the X1.

What about next photokina ? a X2 with non telescopic lens ?

The fixed focal is not a problem for me.

On the contrary, I think it's better (Less question to settle).

The telescoping lens is one of the most important features of the X1 - without that the camera would be much larger - larger than a Pana GF1 with pancake lens. That would certainly be OK with many buyers who are really looking for a much cheaper version of a Leica M8 with fixed lens only. So I guess that's what it comes down to - are you looking for smallest camera with APS-C sensor, or just a better deal on price with a larger camera with APS-C sensor?

I view the X1 as an expensive dead end. It is nowhere near worth three times

the cost of the D-lux 4. But, if you view as I do that it takes Leica three tries to

get anything right (slr's, m digitals, and d-lux's as examples), X1 shows great potential. It could well be a 2012 answer to expanding the market, maintaining reputation and making $

- give it an interchangeable mount, (doesn't have to be M compatible), add a

50, a 75 or 90 and the "wow" factor goes through the roof. Price the body at $12-15

hundred, the lenses at $400-800 each and you have a fantastic lightweight, entry

level digital Leica system to bring new folks into the "family". With live view you don't

have to worry about external finders and could even modify the Digilux's outstanding standard

zoom to provide an attractive alternative solution

Certainly an interesting proposition, but do you think those new or entry-level users would be satisfied with Leica's design approach favoring manual control a-la M9 and X1, or do you think they would be screaming for more features, like the Panasonic-Leica cameras?

My answer is no...not yet. From what I heard from my camera dealer in Canada, Leica is extremely backordered. I hope Leica will simply ship the X1 I recently ordered and give me time to play with it. My dealer told me that he has M9's on a 6 month back order as well. Is Leica overwhelmed by its current success or is the volcanic fallout in Iceland just screwing with shipping and distribution channels?

Dear Leica staff:

Why not just catch up with existing demand for already awesome products first? Don't annoy the hell out of your customers by making them wait too too long. When everyone who ordered an M9, an S2 or an X1 actually gets them...then start teasing us with some new gear. Until then..no..no...no!

Neither... they are just too small of a company to deal with even a small niche product. Sad, but true. It's frustrating to have to wait months for a simple viewfinder.
