RobertW Posted May 31, 2009 Share #2 Posted May 31, 2009 No, haven't experience that. However, how about these 2 questions to start with: - Have you tried formating the SD card in camera (i.e. not on the PC/Mac)? - Is your SD card compatible with the list that Leica has produced? (Go to the Leica website) Best Rob
Englander Posted May 31, 2009 Share #3 Posted May 31, 2009 Yes, I have recently (since the last firmware upgrade) had several times when only white file numbers on a black background showed for review which has always indicated an unreadable and unrecoverable file. After downloading images, I always format the cards in the camera I am using. I don't know if the problem is firmware or card related; but I am suspecting that it occurs whenever 8 GB is approached which may indicate either. Rob, where is this list of approved cards? I have seen references to it (some of them circular self-references) on the Leica Camera website, but haven't been able to find a list on the USA site. Can you give a link? Thanks. SJP Posted May 31, 2009 Share #4 Posted May 31, 2009 The camera has to finish processing of the image before it is visible in review so if you press review too fast you get nothing or the previous image. At least that is my hypothesis.
Englander Posted May 31, 2009 Share #5 Posted May 31, 2009 Yes, Stephen, that's true about trying to review too soon. But what is happening is that in some instances instead of a review picture, I get a file number stretching across the middle of the screen--instead of at the top and in larger font--whenever I push "play" after the red light has gone out, and later when downloaded, the file will show as corrupted. As I said, this is a recent phenomenon and seems to match Mark's experience. The prior images may display normally, but the black frame with the file number never will. Joe Joe, It used to be in the Download section (under Photography>Rangefinder>M8) but it's not there anymore. I suspect that it was removed after firmware upgrade 2.000 made the M8 compatible with SDHC cards. Pete.

Joe Leica has changed the web-site around a bit, now stating that they cannot do compatibility tests on all card manufacturers. (i.e. list is gone ) They recommend Sandisk or Lexar... Here's the link, look in the right hand side under the "know-how" pdf download, in the pdf down load, choose "Q&A" for the discussion. jaapv Posted June 2, 2009 Share #9 Posted June 2, 2009 One of my cards suddenly started doing that. I donated it to the rubbish bin....
RobertW Posted June 2, 2009 Share #10 Posted June 2, 2009 Not to beat this subject to death....But I'll do my best. I've been using Transcend cards without any problem for the past 2 years. They're not equivalent in speed to the Sandisk Extreme III, but I find it fast enough for my "style" of photography. And, Transcend is considerably less expensive (cos they're not as fast). jaapv Posted June 2, 2009 Share #11 Posted June 2, 2009 The card that died on me was a fairly new Sandisk 4Gb Ultra. These things happen
