Hmmm. was just looking at a used Noct, thinking I could get past with 1.1 instead of 1.0 - as a matter of fact, every lens I have is significantly more competent than I am.....

Wishlist for the cropfactor world - 28lux and 35noct I would buy a 28lux on the spot.

Sounds like a viable and affordable alternative. I look forward to hearing more about this lens but already I think I'll probably buy one. The Noctilux is just way too prohibitive for my income bracket.

I want to scream but am holding it for now. I want to make sure it will not exhibit any serious focus issue...

Please Kobayashi-san make it right for us!

cheers

Very cool announcement ! After the redesigned 15, once again they prove to be smart people... I haven't idea if one day i'll think of buying it, but surely is an attractive lens.

I hope they'll put the right attention to assembly tolerances: people who will buy this shall make a lot of wide open use, surely shall make a lot of sharing pics here and elsewhere.... differences from one item to another in behavior at corners, focusing etc... could build a bad reputation on a smart design.

Looking at the preliminary picture of the lens, I notice they made a clever mix of old Noctilux f1 / old Summilux styling elements. These "allusions" to old Leitz lenses is one of the funny things of some CV designs :)

Interesting the way CV have tracked the new Leica lens line-up. Last year, a 28/2 to compete with the strong growth of sales of the 28-cron; this year a 50 f1.1 to attract Nocti wannabes. What next? A 24/1.2, perhaps?

Although I love his softies, I am afraid I take Tom's CV reviews with a pinch of salt. It was after reading his review, that I bought a CV 35/1.2 Nokton, which he claimed was as good as a 35/1.4 ASPH Summilux. Well maybe his one was but my one certainly wasn't.

I posted on another thread, my test diagram shots of my CV 35/2.5 Color-Skopar and Summilux set at f2.5. There is an enormous gulf between the results. CV lenses seem to be just too variable. I also have this suspicion that review lenses may be carefully selected, just like Jaguar does for its magazine road test cars (The Autocar 150MPH E-Type, when real ones were pushed to do 135MPH and the Jaguar XJ6 diesel that does 45MPG).

It is going to take a huge amount of convincing before I buy a 50/1.1.

It's all about the price.... If it as reasonable as the other lenses compared to Leica prices I will give it a try... I assume it will be more like shooting with a Canon 50mm F0.95 than the "real thing"!

I guess I'll express the minority opinion here. I'm not that impressed by the sample images. The bokeh isn't nearly as appealing to me as that of the Noctilux, and the lens to my eye doesn't look all that sharp wide open.
