mgcd Posted July 28, 2009 Share #581 Posted July 28, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Well, if your remark refers to Mark's post, nothing strange that a Company firstly publishes the price list, then starts to deliver, or am I wrong ? Well no, my remarks were written before Mark posted, but as luck would have it his post came before mine.
Advertisement Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 Hi mgcd, Take a look here S2 under pricing pressure. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
mhoersch Posted July 28, 2009 Share #582 Posted July 28, 2009 THIS could be a problem... ... ANNOUNCE, SHOW and then... do nothing more. I hope won't be so for S2... given my bias towards the Company, I'd concede they can afford/risk even a delay of a pair of months... let's say... deliver Nov/Dec 09... "difficult economic moment" - "final quality assurance" - "service dep. training/organization"... even the perennial "final software debugging"; but if they won't deliver... a bad smash on their reputation... sometimes, I think the worst scenario could be that they would declare that the "project" will be passed to, and finalized, by Pansonic or something else... What reputation?
luigi bertolotti Posted July 28, 2009 Share #583 Posted July 28, 2009 What reputation? Oh, damn, I'm of the ones still intimately thinking that "leica is always LEICA" ... our Gotterdammerung hasn' yet turned to deep night...
jaapv Posted July 28, 2009 Share #584 Posted July 28, 2009 But there are those that would chase out Brunhilde...
adan Posted July 29, 2009 Share #585 Posted July 29, 2009 New price point to consider - Hassy CFV-39 back (for older Hassy bodies) @ $14,000 US Hasselblad | CFV-39 392 Megapixel Digital Back | 3034214 | B&H slightly bigger sensor and pixel count - if used in square-crop mode it's 29 Mpixels vs. 25 for the S2. Seeing as I just picked up a Hassy C/M and 2 CF lenses (50/80) for $1,000.....
mhoersch Posted July 29, 2009 Share #586 Posted July 29, 2009 Leica pixels are much better than Hassi pixels, so: no problem.
dhsimmonds Posted July 29, 2009 Share #587 Posted July 29, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Leica pixels are much better than Hassi pixels, so: no problem. Who says? I haven't yet seen a full spec. for the S2.....have you? I do have the spec. for the Hassie back though!

stevesanacore Posted July 30, 2009 Share #589 Posted July 30, 2009 I just don't understand Leica's thinking on these prices. I think they should have tried to compete with Canon and Nikon, not the high end MF market which is slowly dying a quiet death with our without Leica. Back in the film days, they survived against the other 35mm camera makers, why is digital so different? Why build a ridiculously expensive system to compete in such a small market segment? Sorry Leica, I wish them the best, but don't see one in my future at these prices.
jaapv Posted July 30, 2009 Share #590 Posted July 30, 2009 There is an interesting business case in Morgan. Idiosyncratic cars with very few creature comforts. Another niche factory which is a survivor of a massive Japanese onslaught which killed off the British car industry as it tried to compete, by striving to keep small and sticking to their own way. There was some flagging of interest, so they built the Aero, a hugely overpriced, but quite unique sportscar, with the sole intention of stimulating interest in the marque and as a technology platform. It rekindled the interest in their regular models, and surprisingly, is selling not too badly at all, against all expectation. Sounds familiar? I hope the S2's will be better built than Morgans ;-}} ......and yes I have had two in the past, 1926 Aero-Blackburn SS 3 wheeler and 4/4 racing car. jaapv Posted July 30, 2009 Share #592 Posted July 30, 2009 Well, as long as one removed all the tacks that were put through the electric wiring and welded up the exhaust on a regular basis, they were not too bad. Certainly not weatherproof... Drove one for 18 years.
andybarton Posted July 30, 2009 Share #593 Posted July 30, 2009 When was the last time you saw an Aero (not at a car show)...? Erm.... ........... ........... ........... ........... ........... ........... ........... Nope. Never. I hope that the S2 sells a lot more than Morgan can sell Aeros. As an aside, Morgan always reminds me of the BBC programme where Sir John Harvey-Jones turns up and trys to teach them how to run their business. He was CEO of ICI (just retired) at the time, and "Britain's best businessman", specialising in trying to turn round failing companies. Ring any bells? The Morgan family told him to bugger off. Morgan are still here (although goodness only knows how), but remind me what happened to ICI...
