WITH THE SILVER ELMARIT !!! Oh Oh Oh Dunk do you really need THAT unuseful lens ? Silver Elmarit is an obligatory part of the package ... and being "6 bit" will be useful enough Cheers dunk

I was only speculating if you'd consider to SELL it to someone who loves a lot silver lenses... (but not at the point to buy a Safari or White just to have one... )
george + Posted June 9, 2009 Share #27 Posted June 9, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I've been wondering. How long before those green cameras ripen? And what colour do they turn into?
dkCambridgeshire Posted June 9, 2009 Share #28 Posted June 9, 2009 Perhaps we are getting a little off topic here - the thread is to demonstrate the versatility of an M camera in utilizing non-M lenses via an adaptor. My Safari M8.2 will continue to hold its head up high and disregard all the anti-green comments:) Cheers dunk
rickp13 Posted June 9, 2009 Share #29 Posted June 9, 2009 luigi i enjoyed your guessing game and comparisons - very interesting. zeiss seems to be pretty "creative" in making lenses for various mounts and for OEM partners. here's the 16mm distagon for arriflex 35mm cameras, for example. yes, it vignettes a bit on the m8. greetings from hamburg rick Welcome, dear visitor! luigi bertolotti Posted June 10, 2009 Author Share #30 Posted June 10, 2009 Wow, that's an interesting item !!! 16mm for cine 35mm means that anyway it would cover a 18x24 format, right ? Can you post some pics taken with it onto a M8 ?
rickp13 Posted June 10, 2009 Share #31 Posted June 10, 2009 here are 3 from the neighborhood file box which show the vignetting, but also the interesting field of view and useful level of sharpness. greetings from hamburg rick Welcome, dear visitor! rickp13 Posted June 10, 2009 Share #33 Posted June 10, 2009 hi dunk good idea. i think the 16mm distagon might be a good match for the G1 (32mm f2.8, right?), or to the epson rd-1, but don't know of anyone offhand who has one in the hamburg area. do you want to try it, or maybe luigi and his nearby forum friends are interested in testing and sharing the results? cheers rick ps. I like the look of your safari cameras :-))
farnz Posted June 10, 2009 Share #34 Posted June 10, 2009 i think the 16mm distagon might be a good match for the G1 (32mm f2.8, right?) ... Rick, I can't see why you would lose a stop by attaching it to a G1 so it should be equivalent to a 32 mm f/2. Pete.

As a matter of interest, what might be the market value of the lens? Cheers dunk
rickp13 Posted June 10, 2009 Share #36 Posted June 10, 2009 pete, you're right - f2.8 was not correct, but there is (at least) one difference on this lens. the front ring (with serial number etc) shows 1:2, but the aperture ring starts at f2.4, then continues 2.8 through 16 normally. so the g1 would make it the equivalent of 32mm f2.4 - still pretty usable. i haven't looked, but maybe there's a specific arri adapter for the g1 from some source? greetings from hamburg rick PS. many apologies to luigi for hijacking his great thread. i'll be quiet from here on, i promise! Hey Rick ! You don't need to apologize !!! that's the fun of this forum... start with an argument... others follow, make variations, add something of their own... personally I was delighted to discover the existence of a "Distagon 16" even if for cine... pity for C.Z. clearly finely tuned the design for 35mm cine frame... I suppose that vignetting is a "hard" one... not simply darkening at corners, but no coverage-no focus...difficult to adjust by software or so. It would be funny to test it onto a G1... but not so exciting as on a M8....
rickp13 Posted June 15, 2009 Share #38 Posted June 15, 2009 hi luigi thank you for accepting my "side-thread" so gracefully. you're right, there should be room for variations. i'm happy this variation is a positive one, instead of a typical one from an unhappy SLR owner writing about his bad experiences with xxx, yyy, or zzz. the attached photo was made by the original owner of the 16mm distagon with an rd-1. it looks like the 1.5 crop factor removed all or most of the vignetting. in any case, IF you have a G1, and IF you'd like to test the distagon, i'll mail it to you. greetings from hamburgo rick Welcome, dear visitor! gyoung Posted June 17, 2009 Share #40 Posted June 17, 2009 I've been wondering. How long before those green cameras ripen? And what colour do they turn into? Well obviously they go brown in the Autumn (or red in the 'fall' if you are in New England) Gerry
