jimbo035 Posted March 27, 2009 Share #1 Posted March 27, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) by which I mean the small brown or black leather one that in certain countries comes free with the camera. As Leica do not recommend trying to use it with the neckstrap on the camera (they're right), I bought the (thinner) Ultravid 10x25 binoculars strap, hoping it might fold down to fit, but no go So its either back to the wrist-strap/case combination (which I really like and am getting used to) or keep the Ultravid strap on the camera and continue to use an old LowePro case. (previous inhabitant a four-year old Finepix) As continually taking the camera out of the case & then back in ... then out and so on, can get a bit irksome, I might even a Panasonic DMW-CLX3 leather "ever-ready" case (meant for the LX3) which sells for around 80.00 GBP. Much less expensive and to all intents & purposes similar to the hand-made leather ones made by Luigi Crescenzi @ 150 Euros. Advertisement Posted March 27, 2009 Posted March 27, 2009 Hi jimbo035, Take a look here How many D-Lux 4 owners use it's case ?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
earleygallery Posted March 27, 2009 Share #2 Posted March 27, 2009 I don't have a Dlux but do use a Clux. The main appeal to me is the size of the camera for carrying at all times, so the last thing I want to do is stuff it into a bulky case.
jaapv Posted March 27, 2009 Share #3 Posted March 27, 2009 The problem with all these cases is that they will not take the camera with the viewfinder on.
gkolluri Posted March 27, 2009 Share #4 Posted March 27, 2009 I have and use the brown leather one. but had to purchase mine, didn't get it for free.
Zelig Posted March 28, 2009 Share #5 Posted March 28, 2009 Instead of a small camera is a strong one, so forever ready I never use a case, just for what is said... Go in Go out. And if you shoot discret the case doesn't help.
marqos Posted March 28, 2009 Share #6 Posted March 28, 2009 I just got the leica Mocha ever ready full case. I think from what you mentioned it is exactly what you are looking for. Quality is exceptional! Also, you might take a look at leica times cases made by Luigi. I own an ever ready case for my Digilux 3 and the quality and workmanship is outstanding! djrr Posted March 28, 2009 Share #7 Posted March 28, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I know in some countries in Asia the case come free with the camera, I looked up the prices, they're slightly more expensive than camera + case purchased in US. So don't feel too bad about it.
Cherub Posted March 28, 2009 Share #8 Posted March 28, 2009 I received the black case for free ... and it is very loveable . Nice one. But I don't use it as my D-LUX is always equipped with VF and grip ... I own a Lowepro Apex 110 AW bag, and fits perfect for the camera accessories and CF22 flash. bmxjo Posted March 28, 2009 Share #9 Posted March 28, 2009 The problem with all these cases is that they will not take the camera with the viewfinder on. Same problem here! I bought the titanium edition, handgrip and viewfinder and use the camera exclusively with viewfinder and handgrip attached. My solution was to leave the original everready case in its packaging and use the casekeeper when i throw my dlux into my backpack :-) greetings from vienna, austria
farnz Posted March 28, 2009 Share #10 Posted March 28, 2009 If I'm wearing a jacket with large pockets then my DL4 sits in a pocket without its case but if I don't have suitably-sized pockets then I use the 'standard' brown leather case on my belt on my right hand side. I've found that the DL4 is instantly available and can be 'drawn' very quickly, in one smooth motion, by 'splitting' the magnetic catch with the first joint of the index finger on my right hand (a tweak from the thumb can help) and continuing the hand's upward motion, which opens the cover across the root of the thumb, catching the bottom of the lens barrel with the index finger and gripping the top with the thumb and continuing to move upward until the camera's released from the case and I'm holding it by the lens barrel in my right hand. It's now in a handy position for the left hand to grip the body so the right hand can slip round to the front and and squeeze off the lens cap, which goes into my right hand trouser pocket, and my right hand returns to grip the camera in shooting position at the same time flipping the on switch with the tip of the index finger. And bam, bam, bam and three baddies are eating dirt before they've had a chance to draw their weapons! (Note to self: watch fewer westerns. ) It works for me. Pete. I just wrap the strap around the body and it should be ready to go! Just thought of something, is the strap you purchased just made from a single layer of nylon strapping? Some may be different in certain countries. My strap when wrapped around the camera is only 4 or 5 MM thick. Can't believe that those cases are that tight! dhsimmonds Posted March 28, 2009 Share #12 Posted March 28, 2009 My case (brown leather) came with the camera (UK purchase). I do use the thin black Leica neckstrap as well as the leather strap inspite of the handbook warnings not to! It works ok, it just looks a bit odd having half a metre of black strap dangling from the leather case! I am never very happy using any camera without having the security of a neckstrap! jrh68uk Posted March 28, 2009 Share #13 Posted March 28, 2009 Yes - I received the brown one free of charge and a very fine case it is, too. I use it with the supplied wrist strap. The case is usually slung over my shoulder and, with the small size of this camera, it feels very natural for me to use it with a wrist strap. Hand through strap, draw out - ready
georgio Posted March 28, 2009 Share #14 Posted March 28, 2009 since I was one of the first buyers. Thank you Leica, very nice. So I bought the Luigi half case, that I adore, especially since I have the viewfinder attached all the time. Leica It gives the camera good protection and makes it less slippery. Over the years these cases age very nicely. Geo
