Did I miss something? I didn't know they were shipping this one yet....part number 011606.

Anyway, my dealer has one and no customer for it, if anyone is interested. He hasn't even gotten the invoice yet, so he doesn't know the price (but he sells at a good price always)

Ara, at New England Photo, 781-643-1463 (a very good guy, I've been buying new and used Leica from him for 30 years)

Yes the 28/2 is not huge of course but it is the largest Summicron ever made setting aside the 75/2 and 90/2.

I won't have much time to try the new 28 before Xmas i'm afraid but i'll post a couple of pictures with the R-D1 as soon as i can.

Sean Reid is planning to test it with the M8 and/or the R-D1 if i'm not wrong.

Thanks for replying.

I'll be interested to see some direct comparisons between the 2.0 and 2.8 lens.

I was never a big 28 fan on film, but just bought the 28 cron in anticipation of my M8 to recover the 35mm focal length.

Looking forward to the photos.

Ray

I would really appreciate that .. still doubting between the asph and the pre-asph .... hope the asph is less clinical than the 35 summicron asph ..... from Puts review ( ) it should be. Always liked the files of the 28 pre-asph elmarit .. but it is bulky in comparison. The 28 elmarit asph looks like the 35 cron asph .. i really had to look twice today, when i spotted them at a camera shop.

Hi LCT,

Yes, the 28/2.8 is here with the M8 right now.

Cheers,

Sean

Ray,

Ron used the lens for three weeks both with the M8 and on film with the MP. He thinks it a fine lens. When I asked him which HE would buy when he had the scratch, without hesitation he said the 28/2. Why? He said he preferred the way MY pictures looked... ;)

  • 2 weeks later...

Just received the new Elmarit-M 28/2.8 asph.

Nice little lens indeed, about the same size (and shade) as the pre-asph 35/2 4th version.

Its quality is the same as that of more expensive Leica lenses at first glance and its fingerprint is very close to that of the Summicron 28/2.

I don't show pics for now due to my poor monitor here sorry but my feeling so far is that the new 28/2.8 has about the same colour rendition, contrast and overall sharpness as the 28/2 at all apertures, with a slightly harsher bokeh though.

Too soon to say if it's a great lens of course but i won't be surprised if it meets some success amongst film and digital users.

Did I?

I hate the big lens hood of the Summicron, i really do. And that is a strong reason NOT to buy one. I did very few test-shots with both 28asph. from the same subject but the small one seems to do a fine job. The main problem for me is "only 2.8" at my most loved 35mm-angle (M8).

At present I´m thinking about a 1.4/24 for another system and a Tri 16/18/21.

Good to own the Elmarit 24asph. (not only for the M8) ;-)

p.s. I love the fingerprint of the Cron 28 - NO DOUBT !

Thanks, might be worth a try. But this hood was the reason for me to take the Summicron 35asph. instead of the Summilux 35asph. ;)

Well, the next M-lens will be the Tri-Elmar, i think (but with my 21/24/28-finder:rolleyes: ).
