john51 Posted November 14, 2008 Share #1 Posted November 14, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi All, Just thought you would like to see this test shot, wide open (f2) with my Summar 5cm. Not bad really, considering these Summars are not supposed to be particularly sharp at f2. (Perhaps I have a good 'un!) Doesn't look anything special, with the usual cleaning marks on the front element - John
Advertisement Posted November 14, 2008 Posted November 14, 2008 Hi john51, Take a look here Summar Wide Open!. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
earleygallery Posted November 14, 2008 Share #2 Posted November 14, 2008 I'm fortunate enough to have a couple of very clean examples of this lens, without the usual marks, and they produce perfectly sharp (for the age of the lens that is) images even at f2 and the edge of the frame. I posted an example some time ago, will try to link it. I really like the signature of these lenses. http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/landscape-travel/57967-warren-inn-dartmoor.html http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/people/29371-another-summar-shot.html

fernando_b Posted November 15, 2008 Share #4 Posted November 15, 2008 James, your images demonstrate that, most of times, real shots have higher value than any MTF test (regardless to what Erwin Puts insists to write). Fernando.
chris_livsey Posted November 15, 2008 Share #5 Posted November 15, 2008 I will add my link:http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/nature-wildlife/67932-autumn-summar.html#post702991 New Summar acquisition as well. Some boring test shots of the aerials on the roof confirmed sharpness is fine but I need more work to get the best of this special character. Great fun and well worth the modest cost. I even picked up a Summar Hood for a reasonable amount. I am currently pondering how to use a UV/IR filter with it on the M8 although the shots linked are without. UliWer Posted November 18, 2008 Share #6 Posted November 18, 2008 I will add my link:http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/nature-wildlife/67932-autumn-summar.html#post702991 ... I am currently pondering how to use a UV/IR filter with it on the M8 although the shots linked are without. Look for a SOOGZ Adapter. It fits the Summar and you can screw in a 39mm UV/IR-Filter.
