Guest bwcolor Posted November 14, 2008 Share #1 Posted November 14, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Well, got your attention, Leica droolers. Canon G10 is what I meant to say. Look at the features of this $500 camera and then look at the features of the M digital camera. No quality comparison of course, but the Canon is loaded with easy to use, common sense stuff, whereas the Leica is a broken down horse waiting for the knacker. Get with it Leica. canlogic Posted November 14, 2008 Share #4 Posted November 14, 2008 I have a G10 and if you mean an external dial for iso and exp comp then I agree. But there is nothing else that compares to the M8. Raws are fine at iso 80 or 100 for certain things but beyond forget it. It is slow. It has so many features and menu options that I am constantly having to lookup how to do something. All in all though it is a great little pocket camera.

jrgoldman Posted November 14, 2008 Share #6 Posted November 14, 2008 I notice you say 'look'. Have you used either camera. I have an M8 and spent a week working with a G10. There are a lot of positive things to say about it. I returned it because I could not capture raw + B&W jpeg, a feature of the G9. However a camera that needs a 300 page obscurely written instruction book to figure out its features is getting a ridiculous. To compare it to an M8 is also a bit silly. The difference in image quality is huge. I am still waiting for the right compact. The features I want are not there yet.

reynoldsyoung Posted November 14, 2008 Share #9 Posted November 14, 2008 I have a G9 as well as a backup...but, it is hardly a "backup" in the sense of quality images. I have to admit, if they ever figure out how to put great glass on this machine, it will be formidable! It's shutter lag is the best I have seen in these little guys. But, certainly no M8. Shootist Posted November 14, 2008 Share #11 Posted November 14, 2008 I have a G9 and it mostly sits on the coffee table. If anyone is interested make me an offer. Wilfredo Benitez-Rivera Photography Sold my G9 about 2 months ago to someone on these forums. It has so many buttons that I couldn't figure out how to use it and I kept hitting one, two or three of the buttons every now and then when I was just trying to take a picture that setting would change and I had no idea how to get it back to what it was set to before. And I just could stand looking at the images next to what I get from the M8. bwcolor if you think the G10 is so good then sell your Leica gear and buy 5-10-15 of them. terrycioni Posted November 14, 2008 Share #12 Posted November 14, 2008 Discussing the recent Canon G10, on a Leica M8 forum is a bit out of scope:D. So to that end I would suggest people have a look at the D-LUX4 it is a significant competitor to the G10, with a 24mm F2.0 lens. Just so I don't get this chucked back at me, yes I know it is built by Panasonic. The Leica marketing hype calls the D-LUX4 "son of M8". Cute if nothing else. For the sake of disclosure - I bought a D-LUX4 from Tony Rose at popflash, and I like it very much, I don't consider it back-up to the M8 - but it is truly pocketable and very useable. I paid the Leica tax - as opposed to the LX3, call me crazy! I theorize that it is this family of digitals that keeps the cash flow moving for Leica and not M8.2 sales. Best regards, Terry. trs Posted November 14, 2008 Share #13 Posted November 14, 2008 One of reason I got into M8 is so I don't have to think about having a backup camera when I don't want lug around big guy (dSLRs). -T

ianho_ Posted November 14, 2008 Share #15 Posted November 14, 2008 Crazy.............. the G10 is hardly useful for anything above ISO100. It's not even as good as the D-Lux 4 so how on earth is it even comparable to an M8?
Overgaard Posted November 15, 2008 Share #16 Posted November 15, 2008 May I point everybody's attention to the new Bosch Rotak 37 which can do 150m2 lawn in one go. I don't understand why the M8.2 can't to that. Think again, Leica. Welcome, dear visitor! khun_k Posted November 15, 2008 Share #17 Posted November 15, 2008 Crazy.............. the G10 is hardly useful for anything above ISO100. It's not even as good as the D-Lux 4 so how on earth is it even comparable to an M8? For those who does not care about the experience of getting the picture done and simply compare the prints may have their say. I use M8 since its introduction, and it will be quite fair to say the G10's best will not be as good as M8 at its best, but there will be pictures from both that may be somewhat comparable. The G10 is a totally different camera than M8, it has a serious time lag that make it almost impossible to take spontaneous shot, while M8 is just at home for those shot. It is really depending how one judge the quality of the picture, rather than pure sharpness, noise, depth of field, and etc. As long as a picture deliver what the photographer wants to deliver, it is a good picture and that's what camera designed to be. There are images M8 can take and G10 could not, and vice versa.

Thankfully its just some silly rant thread. Now, why can't the M8 make a decent cup of cappucino, anyone know? Come on Leica!!
