Quick and dirty test.

ISO 2500 1/30th at f2. Summicron ASPH Summicron.

Full frame, then detail at 100%. Absolutely no processing in either frame - WB, levels or noise reduction.

It looks to me as if the change down point for Auto ISO is 1/60th of a second. If the auto shutter speed drops below this, it ups the ISO. Do others agree?

I would prefer quick-alter ISO on the arrows, but in its absence, maybe for technical/hardware reasons, this is a useful second best for many circumstances.

Wilson:

The shift of the iso is dependant on how you set it in the menu. There is an option for lens dependant, or you can pick a shutter speed at which it shifts the ISO. You can also pick th emax ISO it will shift too.

For example, lens dependant would be a good general shooting, while in low light you might want to pick a lower shutter speed as the shift point.

If you are shooting moving stuff, you might want to set the shift point to a higher shutter speed.

Wilson after you set the camera to Auto ISO in the SET Menu you then go into the normal menu and you can set the shutter speed to anything from 1/8 to 1/125 or Lens dependent. If it's set to Lens dependent I couldn't get it to go any lower then 1/90 with a 50 Lux on the camera. I didn't try it with any other lenses. Could be that Leica threw out the old rule of one stop faster then the lens mm taking into account that a 50 on the M8 is really a 67mm lens. So 1/90 would be one stop faster.

Agreed, but the lower half of the wallpaper _was_ yellow, which may have influenced things - the radiator is white. Also the light was from one of those low energy bulbs and that too may have had an effect. As I say, I didn't try to correct the white balance or levels. Overall I'm impressed.

Steve, what is the lighting for this shot? There are shadows from three light sources that seem to come from different directions.

Magic! :)

I was commenting on your paint scheme :)

Sorry, I should have qualified my post by saying that I was on lens dependent and had a 35 ASPH Lux fitted. As you say if you fit a 50 Lux, the change down point goes up to 1/90th - all in all pretty sensible. I presume it will go up to 1/125 with a 75 etc etc. Now in bed so too lazy to get up and go and get a 75 or 90 from the other end of the house.

I can't explain how this could be done by just a firmware change, however 2500ASA was almost unuseable before...

The worst texture seems to be the JPEG compression.

Just selected this motive to make you envious ;)

There are two light sources. One is a low energy bulb in the ceiling to the right of the shot, the other is a tungsten bulb just over my left shoulder.
