Olsen Posted August 6, 2008 Share #8 Posted August 6, 2008 While many find this kind of speculation 'iritating' and 'waste of time' etc. I find them interesting. My belief on what we will see at Photokina from Leica is: 1) A fast and wide alternative to WATE. Say, a 16 or 18 mm 2,8. 2) We will not see a M9. Not even a 'prototype'. But we will see up dated M8's with the new saphire glass and all that. 3) A new R-camera has - almost - been announced by Kaufman earlier. It just might be a Full Frame version with - about - 16 to 21 mill. pixels and with three prototype AF zoom lenses. A very sexy pro machine that takes 'very' good pictures. At a price. I would guess 10,000 US $/6.000 Euros - which it will be worth. Later tests will show that it blows 1Ds III out of the water. Not the least thanks to the far better Leica optics. R10dreamer Posted August 6, 2008 Share #9 Posted August 6, 2008 They have already stated that they will not be introducing any new R glass.
earleygallery Posted August 6, 2008 Share #10 Posted August 6, 2008 I've heard that they are going to reveal that the world is indeed flat!
earleygallery Posted August 6, 2008 Share #11 Posted August 6, 2008 Oh, and they are going to have that Achmed on the stand to meet and greet visitors.
stuny Posted August 6, 2008 Share #12 Posted August 6, 2008 Richard - A week or two ago smebody posted a link to an interview with Dr. kaufman in which he stated essentially no M9 yet, that there was still plenty of life and development in the M8. He also essentially stated that there would be no new R there, but that they are working on it.
jackal Posted August 6, 2008 Author Share #13 Posted August 6, 2008 ok, thanks was going to buy a 2nd M8 but wanted to wait to see what was coming out next maybe its worth holding out just a little bit longer and keeping my Epson in the bag as a backup instead. andybarton Posted August 7, 2008 Share #14 Posted August 7, 2008 if you are in the Market for a new M8, it would be sensible to wait until September. Even if there is no M9, there could easily be a warmed over M8.
pierovitch Posted August 7, 2008 Share #15 Posted August 7, 2008 The new one off Leica MDF. The wood mockup that everyone will want to change before the real one is released at photokina 2010 as the M10.

JasonSF Posted August 11, 2008 Share #18 Posted August 11, 2008 I think there will be no new camera until photokina 2009. Just some updates to the M8 this year.
marknorton Posted August 11, 2008 Share #19 Posted August 11, 2008 You can turn up for "Photokina 2009" if you want to, but I don't think you'll find much photography in evidence at Koelnmesse... The next one is 2010...
