Wah, wah, wah,,,,,,,,

If Leica's time-frame doesn't suit your needs then either get used to it or buy another system. Viability as a company? Geese, they've always moved like molasses in winter - for years........get out and take some pictures with your R system and re-connect to the magic that is Leica.

Kaufmann has a plan, it's his company, and for the first time in years, there is actually a plan and he really doesn't have to tell us squat.

Dr Kaufmann owns the company. It's his bat and his ball and he can play any game that he wants to. As customers of Leica Camera AG we simply have to hope that he has a good game plan.

Personally I'm optimistic that there will indeed be some very interesting news from Leica at Photokina '08, but 'announced' and 'available' are two entirely different concepts of course. Patience is probably going to be needed beyond September.

What kind of schedule are they on? Do you know something that we don't know?

It seems to me that Leica and you should realize that the customers are self centered. What other kind of customer is there?

And if you needed it several years ago, whether you are a patient person or not is irrelevant.

Damn loud Americans... complaining all of the time and having the audacity to preach to a company about what they need and when they need it. I think Leica should ignore anyone who talks this way. It will serve him right, "No SOUP for YOU."

Geez, doesn't waiting 2+ years demonstrate enough patience? I couldn't wait for Nikon to make a full frame camera and switched to Canon 5 years ago. If I had been a Leica shooter, I certainly could not have stuck with them past 2003 regardless of how good the lenses may be. I'd be long out of business by now.

Alan what I'm condemning is calling Dr. Kaufmann Bozo and referring to him as a clown. This is reprehensible on a forum and I'm certain you would have a response if someone did the same to you. Who is anyone to tell an owner of an established company to shit or get off the pot, that goes beyond self centered to just rude. If this individual walked into Leica and started this rant he/she would be tossed out on their butt and rightly so. It is the advent of forums such as this that enable individuals to express a crassness that they would not do in person.

If I'm understanding it correctly, Dr. Kaufmann has no background in camera nor digital imaging industry, so his decision will be largely dependent on the folks who are surrounding him. I'm hoping he is well informed and making his best judgment.

Ya gotta admit...who'd wanna work for Leica.

On the one hand you have 50% of the people bitching that you aren't up to snuff in the digital world while the other 50% bitch because you are forsaking film and wasting resources on this digital garbage.

People...get a life.

This is getting ridiculous .... not yet wait until comment # 74

I'm with Imants: when are we going to get to post number 74 on this thread??!!

We're only at post #48 now and we've been waiting long enough! It's a clear abuse of human rights not to reveal NOW what's going to be in post #74!!

Okay ... if you refuse to reveal what's in post #74 then I'm going to desert this thread and go straight to a competing thread!!!

The management of this thread is apalling and whoever is managing it should be sacked within an inch of their lives and never allowed to manage another thread in the future. This is too much! I can't stand it!!

Pete.

You're a customer, you vote with your wallet, so either you need a camera now which would lead to Leica losing out on a deal (tough shite) or prefer to wait what's up their sleeves (if at all).

It's that simple. Of course you are free to vent on there forums, but then again, it gets old after some time.

True that is rude. But reality is reality and obviously some Leica customers are quite upset with the company. "No soup for you" is a reference to a Seinfeld TV show that ran several years ago in the US. It was about the "Soup Nazi" who would not give you any soup unless you were especially respectful and followed his rules to the letter. (Or if he didn't like you for any other arbitrary reason." (I know you are American but I'd suspect most readers haven't seen this show.)

Your earlier post reminded me of this attitude. E.g. why should Leica listen to anyone? As if people should just be grateful for whatever they get from Leica whenever Leica feels like making it. That attitude will not fly with Americans or pretty much anyone else these days. (Except perhaps a few die-hards and some who do not actually need to be shooting with a competitive DSLR.)

As long as I have been following Leica they have been very slow to respond to developments in the industry and have lost customers and potential customers at many steps along the way. Even as a 12 year old in 1964 I thought that someone should have stuck a Nikon F into the hands of every person at Leica back in 1959.

But, you didn't mention about those who have ALREADY voted many times ... what if they wake up tomorrow morning, only to find that the value of their collection is not more than a paperweight overnight?

I daresay some of the most vocal critics of Leica here could barely pin-point Germany on a map, still less go there and ask for a plate of spargel or spaetzle in the local language.

Visiting Germany and doing business in Germany is a pleasure, there's much less of the hyperbole which accompanies US and UK business practice. They're conservative, cautious even, but unfailingly polite and straight to deal with. They pay their bills much more quickly than the foot-dragging British.

I'm there in September. Nurbergring, Solms (of course), Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen, Leipzig and Ingolstadt and then a second visit for Photokina. Looking forward to it.

Mark,

may I suggest a little modfication to your schedule: First go to Zuffenhausen, pick up your 911, then to the Nürburgring, afterwards to Ingolstadt, get an A6 as replacement for the 911 you left at the "Nordschleife", then take your A6 to Leipzig via Autobahn 9 ... :D

regards

Stefan

And why would that be?

Would your collection suddenly stop making photographs? Do you buy this stuff as an investment, or as something to use?

(I am speaking as someone with quite a lot of R glass on the shelf here, btw)

This is getting ridiculous!

We have spent 2 years "guessing" about Nikon's and Canon's replacements for the D80 and 5D. That is absolutely ridiculous. Embarrassing. Pathetic.

Now Photokina is quickly approaching and this continuous supply of rumors just keeps rolling along. No facts. No information. Just rumors, hopes and dreams. Who is running Canon and Nikon, Bozo the Clown[?].

Nagoya and Tokyo - either shit or get off of the pot. Tell us what SLR solutions are in the plans. Tell us that you even care that we exist. Treat us like you care about us or sell the damn company to someone that does.

Please allow me to make two things clearer:

1. Although the gears that I have are still in working condition but all products have a life span, at a certain point of time, they'll break down, I'm hoping that Leica could provide a relative long term and reliable system so by the time a replacement/upgrade is due I'm still able to cope with.

2. I don't buy my gears as an investment - in fact, they are pure waste of money for what I do, but I also don't buy them for display only. I like to use them and I want to use them, if what Leica is doing will prevent me from doing so in the long term, then I must say that's a problem.

As a happy owner of the DMR, I find it amusing that R users are waiting for the R10 . OK the DMR ain't perfect, but it's a great tool. So good that I've now bought my third (first one stolen, then replaced, just bought third as backup).

Using the manual R lenses is great. I'm a great believer in Doug Herr's philosophy, in that your eyes are a multi-million point focussing tool. I've used specs and contacts with my DMRs (as well as my film Ms). The image quality is great - what more do I need?

Best wishes,

Charlie

OK, I'm not a pro. But I don't think my images that I post here are particularly amateurish either (OK maybe I'm wrong there!)

Do you have any doubt that these models will be updated soon? By my count Canon has made 19 different DSLR models. Nikon's web site shows 8 current DSLR models.

I don't think anyone could do a better job running camera companies than they have.
