Chris, I like the look of the M4-P with the traditional advance lever, and without the asa dial or dot.

Thanks Thomas. I couldn't find the original black chrome lever anywhere. DAG and Dave in leica NJ run out of the old stock as well so I asked Robert to paint it in low reflective paint to mimic the black chrome. It has been working very well for me.

Still, i want one of those .85x MPs one day. :p

...just noticed the rectangular hood on your pre-asph 35 Summilux, maddoc2003jp. How did you do it and does it remain secured in position?

... easy ! that is the 12526 rectangular hood from the 35/2.0 ASPH. It fits to the 35/1.4 pre-ASPH as well (both are A42) and I glued a rubber ring into the hood that holds an E39 filter. The rubber o-ring is slightly pressed against the filter so that it prevents free rotation of the hood. Just align it correctly when putting on the hood and it will stay aligned, even when storing the camera in the bag repeatedly.

I have been using a very battered M4-P for years now. When I decided I needed a second body I tried an M6. It may seem paradoxical but I found that the built-in meter slowed thing down. I was fiddling with the settings rather than looking at the picture. Metering separately, before framing and exposing, allows me to really look at the subject without any distractions. So I disposed of the M6 and got a very late (1984) production chrome M4-P. I could have just taken the batteries out of the M6 but I do like the feeling of working with something that is as uncomplicated as it can get yet is still able to produce quality results...in the spirit of the early days of Leica culture, I like to think.
