R vs M

No.

R lenses haven't been updated for some time (most of them), but they are still outstanding. Some are almost identical in design to the M equivalents, while some are different. Obviously, in longer lengths, there is no competition anyway. They are also very much more affordable than their M counterparts.

Would I loose some quality or picture magic if prefer R-system? Please Help to select ! Glad any comments !

You might loose some weight carrying it around. Which could be a good thing or a bad thing depending on your situation :p

Jaap is correct in that you will indeed want both R and M. And yes, now is the time to buy R lenses because the prices are way down, but I truly believe the lenses you buy will be compatible with the Digital R and the prices will rebound once that camera is announced.

I have no info on that, it is a gut feeling.

OK. Thanks.

My dealer doesnt know about price falling down.

R and M lenses cost equally.

I prefer new gear.

Your dealer knows you want to buy :)

Even new R lenses are discounted by most dealers - they are trying to clear their stocks. It would seem likely that any new Leica SLR will have autofocus (just my opinion).

I really wouldn't buy new R glass however. There is hardly anything to go wrong with a Mint s/h lens so why pay more? I would go for a new body if budget allows - again you should find new R9's at discounted prices.

You can't use M lenses on an R (OK some viso flex tele lenses as an exception).

On the subject of new versus used R glass, you might like to consider the possibility of "Ex Demo" R lenses. These can be very competitiive, and have the advantage of a full Passport warranty (at least, they do in the UK). I've gone down this route with the last three R lenses which I've bought, a 21-35, a 28-90, and a 100 macro Elmarit, all as new, and all at virtually half list price with full warranty.
