rsh Posted May 12, 2008 Share #21 Posted May 12, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) It may be a prop, or it may not, but I have seen a photo of him in the past year in Africa carrying either and R8 or R9, so it is no surprise that he has an M with a 50 Summilux in his hand in the photo. Philippe D. Posted May 12, 2008 Share #22 Posted May 12, 2008 it is no surprise that he has an M He had already two (with winder however) in the movie "Spy Game". Guest Austerby Posted May 12, 2008 Share #23 Posted May 12, 2008 From what I'm aware, he's no "drongo" that's for sure - he's presented programmes on Nick Drake for the BBC and contributed to one on Jeff Buckley too so he's got form as a gentleman of taste. I wouldn't believe everything one reads in the papers...
chris_livsey Posted May 12, 2008 Share #24 Posted May 12, 2008 Obligatory shot of Vicky Beckham (insert here) with her Digilux One Allan Actually she is cutting edge and there is a pinhole in that lens cap Might need more support though
johnkuo Posted May 12, 2008 Share #25 Posted May 12, 2008 - M6 : M7 has the "long times" 2s 4s : they don't appear, and even the "count" of the engraved exp. times suggests they aren't present. - Lens : Apo-Summilux 50 : 4+4+1 f/stop values on the DOF scale : must be 16-11-8-4-2-4-8-11-16 : Elmarit 90 has 3+3+1 ; besides this, another f stop value can be spotted (unclear) at far right : must be 2 to 16 ("5,6" is rather recognizable). The closest alternative is Apo Summicron 75...similar DOF scale... the distance scales are very similar in both, and coherent with the pic, but the focus ring seems tapered... and its dimension more similar to the 50's one. Good analysis , except I'm sure you meant Summilux 50 ASPH, there's no APO 50mm.

Riccis Posted May 13, 2008 Share #30 Posted May 13, 2008 Need one mention Seal? He's an enthusiastic M8 user and seems to be a genuinely nice bloke. He is certainly passionate about his photography, and more than knows which end is which. As Rob says, just because they are famous doesn't make them daft. I met Auguste Darnell yesterday (Kid Creole), together with one of his coconuts. We flew down from Glasgow on the same plane, and ended up strap-hanging our way around Heathrow on a bus to arrivals. Really nice bloke, no airs and graces, chatty and amiable. All too often we form opinions of actors and performers based on seeing a fraction of their lives, during which, for the most part, they are pretending to be someone else. "Go figure", as our colonial cousins would say. Regards, Bill Regards, Bill He is a personal friend and, you are right, along with his wife, one of the nicest and most down to earth people I know... He is a very talented photographer and I was so impressed by a project he did last year that I've trying to convince him to showcase it... I hope one day he can share with everyone the work I've seen, but due to my respect for his privacy, I will not disclose additional facts. Cheers,

Guest jimmy pro Posted May 13, 2008 Share #33 Posted May 13, 2008 It may be a prop, or it may not, but I have seen a photo of him in the past year in Africa carrying either and R8 or R9, so it is no surprise that he has an M with a 50 Summilux in his hand in the photo. Possible Alternate Explanations: 1. Product placement. Of course I wouldn't bank on this being the case because that would assume some really sharp marketing talent on Leica's part. 2. Pitt says to his personal assistant "Find me a really expensive camera that also makes me appear discerning and ecclectic instead of a shallow Hollywood pretty-boy." 3. Angelina says to her personal assistant "Find Pretty-Boy a really expensive camera that also makes him appear discerning and ecclectic." 4. Jen uses Canon. bobtodrick Posted May 13, 2008 Share #34 Posted May 13, 2008 Love it when pics like this (Pitt and Leica) turn up...really showcases the 'done nothing' people who are so insanely jealous of those who've got something (success) they don't have. Yukyukyuk! Ya know, I got rid of my Leica's recently (M's with Leica glass) in part due to being fed up with being pigeon-holed with all the Leica wankers out there. Have a good life guys...I'll be hangin' with the boys on the Canon forum who only worry about taking better pics...not whose got the biggest....uuummmm....lens. Actually Bob, As I am a member of a Canon International Forum, what they are talking about is selling their Mark IIIs and buying Nikon D3's because Canon still can't get the focusing right and refuses to deal or realize the issue. If you recently bought Canon over Nikon, you made the wrong choice schmuck!

Hanging with any boys on any forum is not likely to help you take better pics. Methinks you completely and utterly miss the point. Don't let the screen door whack you in the a** on the way out.
