jesus, I just bought a button rewind m2 from Camera west and it has fungus in the viewfinder when it arrived... Never mentioned in the Ad.. Trying to initiate a return or them to pay for a CLA. Am I being too picky??

I'd definitely return the camera.  I've bought a ton of stuff from CameraWest over the years and have never received anything that wasn't exactly as described.  I'm sure it was an unintentional oversight and they'll make it right.

Hey, I’m hoping someone can provide some advice about Leica M2 film loading. Most of the time I have no problem loading film but today for the second time I inserted the film, made sure the holes connected to the sprockets, closed the camera, wound it on and released the shutter. Then I noticed as I was advancing the film the two red dots of the rewind button were not advancing. Even though I feel that the film itself is advancing. I rewound and removed the film reinserted and all works fine. I suspect that sometimes an element below the rewind button is not engaging with the film shaft. Have others experienced this and is there anything I should do which can avoid this ? Thanks

When you slide the leader under the tab in the take up spool you should see an arrow indicating the film is securely in place. When you slide both the film cassette and the spool into the camera, be sure to check the film cassette is engaged to the rewind knob. A slight turn of the knob will let you know.

You didn’t mention if you have a button or lever rewind.

The fact that the rewind button does not turn when you advance the film can come from a "loosely" bound film roll.
Try lift up the rewind button and rewind gently till you feel some resistance .
Push the button back .
Then,  the red dots should turn when you advance the film for the next shot.

This happened to me with recanned cine film like Kodak Vision on different film Ms.

An early M2  from the first batch of 1957 which I found already fitted with a M3 0,91 rf unit .

Had the worn top cover changed  for a new old stock one .

As mentioned, probably one of the best Leicas, Film cameras and still cameras ever.

Here with a 35mm FLE v1 and an AstrHori light meter

Just can’t stay away from the M2. My new late model (1966). Also keeping to my rule of a new lens with every new body, an absolutely gorgeous Voigtlander 35mm f1.5 type ii in silver. Last but not least, my AstrHori light meter.

Hello JMF.......Your Black M2 looks just like one I recently bought. Who did the paint job on yours? Nice........

As my normal lens is any 35mm of whatever flavour the M2 is my preferred body when the M2 / M3 choice comes up.

How many OEM caps for the flash sync ports have you lost? I think I got to my third set before I found these:

https://www.ebay.fr/itm/394174013656?var=662685311083

Their domed shape defies catching on clothing, cases or whatever else and disappearing. I spray painted mine to match the Black M2 body and they just stay on there without escaping.

Hello Smudgerer,

thank you.

My M2 is  mostly made of original black parts .

The painted parts are the rewind button parts, the shutter button , the ear lugs and the top cover screw. Shueido did paint these.

As for the OEM caps , I rarely loose them!

Show us your M2 then 🙂

Cheers, JM.

Hello JMF, these Black M2's are truly beautiful, my other silver M2 isn't getting the attention it still deserves nowadays since the Black one arrived.

Mine was repainted by Jacques Fontana, very nicely done............But it was in need of a VF CLA when I bought it so it's soon going away for that to be done.

Hello,

may I ask to whom you're sending the M2 to have its VF clad?

I still have other button M2s ...

That one has a M3 RF unit :
