aesthetics and prejudise....

well, u know, usually this concept is thought as descirbing something beutiful, vissually appealing etc. it comes from the classicism usually, and although we have gone a long way since then - still, the first and sometimes the only assosiation with aesthetics is beautiful, vissualy appealing and this kind of things. so others from not classical perioud can also be concidered aesthetically beautiful - like many of impressionists.

now... is egon scheile painting has aesthetics??? if i go by the normal and common definition (more or less) of aesthetics then scheile is ugly.

well... i think that aesthetics is not a concept that defines particular kind of things or even particular visual impact... i think it is more a cognitive function. cognitive function that draws the line between the vission and emotional/mental impact from the vission by mean of non-descursive mental operation at all. it is the way things "look".. and the imact and the assosiations u have from the "look" regardless the subject matter (by definition).

so ya, with this view (which comes from functional approach to mental behaviour), with this view - scheile is one of the most aesthetical painters. he goes the deepest with it... he talks about his feelings by means of aesthetics (the way his painting "looks").

in modern computer based designs, aesthics got back again to the old defenitions. simply because many of the computer based artists are limited in their expression. it is simple - the mental/cognitive event of aesthetics is mental and cognitive of course but its origin and its sourse is material/sunstential (like that paper and the graphits and rough colors of schiele that underline the material aspects of his work).

hope it is clear :-))))))))
