My congratulations to Bill and Andreas (and to Ann who had the original idea) for making a big success of a great occasion that couldn't have been more timely. Its reminded us that Leica (and this forum) is all about taking great pictures.

This Leica Day has lifted me from the doldrums induced by recent depressing events at Solms and some serious bickering and crabbiness all over this forum! I suspect at least 200 others who've already posted their Leica Day captures feel the same. My donation will be winging its way to the Disabled Photographers Charity this weekend.

It would be great if this became an annual event (or at least every fourth year)!

A question: Is it still intended that we'll be able to locate our images in Google Earth? It would be extremely interesting to see the geographic spread of the members of this forum.

Yes. It's been beta tested and I believe that Andreas will turn it on over the weekend.

My apology here to honourable members : I promised to submit a picture,

but couldn't shoot properly yesterday. Had a hell of a time with french administration

(one of the worst species)

.

Try to do better next year ! Sure there will be a next year…

I'm eager to see this edition's entries.

I would like also to give my congratulations to Andreas, Bill and Ann and to all those who promoted the Leica Day, who, for sure, did a huge work to make possible this event. to them my best thanks.

althouth I had a tough day, with too much work to do, in the evening I picked up the L1 and shooted. I hope you like the result.

three questions:

1- shall we submit only one picture?

2- how can we, from outside UK, give our donation to the DPS?

3- when wil the next Leica Day take place? (I think it's the question most of us are making at the time...)

Best regards

Pedro

Coming this weekend - I'll send out another newsletter and mention it here in this thread.

1 - Yep. Only one picture please.

2 - Donation link to make your donation via Paypal will be set up this weekend too.

3 - No plans until now. But everything is set up now so it's no big deal to repeat this event. Every four years is in my eyes a little bit too long but every year or twice a year would fit better,

Best regards from Bonn

Andreas

Initially I planned to ask to set up a 'dustbin' for the images not being rated as #1. Seing the number of images already posted, I fear this would flood the server.

Like an avalanche...

Andreas,

May I suggest a yearly event on Oskar Barnack's birthday - 1st November?

Hmm - that's quite a good idea - we do need a significant date to hang something like this on, and I suppose that 1 Nov is no worse weather-wise than 29 Feb!

I too would like to record my appreciation to Ann, Bill and Andreas for their hard work in getting this marvellous event going. I am amazed at how it's taken off and the speed with which postings have flooded in.

Well done!

When viewing the images people have posted - they are quite small.

Many pictures do not come out to their full potential since details become invisible

Is there anyway of seeing them in a larger format, i.e. as posted?

Hey Bill,

I think that was quite a success, even more participants than you were awaiting!

and I think all the "analogs" are still coming - so myself.

I choose my Leica III from 1933 - that it is now exactly 75 years old - takes some time till the pictures are there :o .

yours OLAF

PS: the germans were not doing so bad - I think ;)
